Most Practical RGB option in US?

For a while now I’ve been interested in making the jump to RGB, however I can’t decide what option is best. From what I have gathered, the most popular options are:

  1. RGB -> HDMI scaler
  2. Sony PVM or other production RGB monitor
  3. RGB mod on a standard NTSC tv

Personally I would prefer to avoid RGB -> HDMI, as I would like to use a CRT to achieve a certain look-and-feel, as well as to avoid lag and other conversion issues. That being said RGB monitors seems to get expensive quickly with size, and I think I would kill myself if I attempted an RGB mod on a tv.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience importing a crt tv from Europe or Japan and utilizing the scart or jp-21 connections they come with for RGB. I would imagine a japanese crt would work best as they have the same electrical standards as in the US. If not what is your preferred RGB option and why?
