Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima explained the Switch’s lack of backward compatibility and that more ports from previous Nintendo systems could come to the system in the future.
“Switch is not backward compatible with games designed for other systems, and is not currently compatible with controllers designed for other systems,” Kimishima told Time. “Support for certain controllers may be considered for a future update.“
p dir=”ltr”>In response to whether Switch could emulate Wii U games, Kimishmia acknowledged that Nintendo can take Wii U games and make them playable or even remade for Switch. “In some cases, games from past systems may be re-released for the Nintendo Switch system as either enhanced or original versions,” he added. Previously Nintendo confirmed last year that the Switch was not compatible with Wii U or 3DS games.
