The New Valkyrie Profile Gets First Trailer, Is Indeed a Mobile Game

Square Enix recently revealed that a new game in the Valkyrie Profile RPG series is in the works. It didn’t, however, specify what platform it would be coming to, but evidence pointed toward it being a smartphone release–something we now know is the case.

The teaser website for Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin has been updated to reveal it’s coming to iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Ahead of its launch this spring, you can pre-register for access through the site, though keep in mind this is intended for those in Japan. There’s not yet any word on an international release.

Likewise, a newly released trailer (above) is also entirely in Japanese. It unfortunately doesn’t show any footage of the game itself, instead consisting of a few lines of dialogue that are also displayed on screen. As translated by Siliconera, these talk about death and approaching it together.

The Valkyrie Profile series–of which Anatomia is a part, based on the logo resembling that of previous games–dates back to 1999, when Valkyrie Profile was released in Japan on the original PlayStation. That game would be ported to PSP in 2006 and has since seen two follow-ups: one on PS2 in 2006 (Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria) and another on DS in 2008 (Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, released in the west in 2009).

Covenant of the Plume producer Yoshinori Yamagishi is listed on the teaser site as being involved, which suggests series developer Tri-Ace is taking the reigns on development. However, that hasn’t yet been officially announced.
