Title: Latest Modern Purchases
Post by: Minerals on Jun 25, 2012, 09:27 AM
What are the latest modern games you have added to your collection?

I recently brought the following games for my 360, after trading in a few old ones:

I bought that Driver SE boxier with model car for my son at Xmas, it's quite a good game actually, good for a quick 10 min muck around on, and the split screen is good fun trying to catch each other for some sideswiping action!

Recently bought Trials 2 on Xbox live, great fun multiplayer!

Other than that it was F1 2011... As you can tell I don't play that many modern games over the last few years.

Bought Red Seeds Profile. (PS3 - JPN) It was released as Deadly Premonition on the 360, but the PS3 version is JPN/Asia exclusive. English voicework so shouldn't be too hard to play.

Also, Marvel Pinball: Avengers DLC Pack. Four more great tables from zen studios... they stepped away from real-world pinball with a couple of these and they're really fun.

I have purchased Dirt Showdown and Trials 2 on the 360.

Love them both.

No a small advert lol.

Guys i dont like to advertise it that much but RVG has a bigger brother called MVG aka http://www.maturevideogamer.co.uk its a mature gaming site with plenty of multiplayer game nights going on and friendly banter.. you just have to be over 18 to join.

I just bought 3 Wii U games from CeX:

Mad World - £1.50
House Of The Dead Overkill - £4
Cruisin' - £4

Not bad for less than a tenner!

So you've three games already for Wii with two being from Sega and the other being from Midway.

I've six Wii U games so far with only the pack-in game being from Ninty.

Happy days! 8)

I just bought a Wii nunchuck because I didn't have one as well as a second controller in black to match my console. £3 for the nunchuck and £9 for the extra controller, both with free postage, so I can't complain too much.

I picked up HotD Overkill, from CEX too, along with SMG2 and Indiana Jones Staff of Kings. I bought these during he festive hols but haven't gotten around to playing any of them yet.  The guy that served me was a chatty friendly chap who seemed to like video games so we got talking about the HotD series. I mentioned the Overkill hand cannon and he gave me one for free which was nice  :)

Halo 4
-Again... the absolute BOLLOCKS!!

Sonic Generations
-absolutely brilliant so far

Black Ops 2
- so far, the shittest of all Call Of Duty's on current gen tech

and I got a couple retro bits too but I'll bring them up in he other forum :)

Bought Hyperdimension Neptunia (PS3) from Zavvi for 12 GBP.

I'm not a fan of JRPGs... and this one received mixed reviews... but the entire game is a metaphor/parody of the console wars between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. The main character is a lost soul from 'Neptunia'. :D

Last summer I pre ordered Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – Wizard's Edition and it finally showed up on my door step yesterday. I got lucky as the company doing the distribution for this really screwed up and ended up cancelling a bunch of the orders.
I didn't open it yet but the main highlight of the Wizard's Edition is a hard cover 300 page spell book! Yes 300 pages! Really looking forward to getting into this  :)

Some interesting games mentioned in this thread.

Red Faction Armageddon - I was playing this today, actually. It cost me £3.75 in a Steam sale some time ago. Not breathtaking but quite good fun.

RDR is one of my favourite modern games.

Most recent game I purchased was Hitman: Absolution. It was a tenner or so in last weekend's Sqeenix sale.

Not a sequel, but a REMAKE.

Game is now a 3rd person affair, graphically it's rough compared to DC original (blocky characters with awful animation and poor textures-PS2's limited video Ram rearing it's ugly head again here), on the flipside:

Difficulty been toned down, you can start on a beginner level, difficulty wise, there's save points with the levels, you can carry health items and use them as/when you want.

Also game seems to have taken on an RPG element, as you build up the characters you've sight jacked.

Not sure quite what to make of it, whilst the difficulty changes are very welcome, quite taken aback by how rough game looks.

At this stage? finding it more of a curio rather than a must play.

Just looked this game up and I see it was never released in North America so I guess that's why I never heard of it. Oh well, after reading your thoughts it doesn't sound like I'm missing too much other then the toned down difficulty which would be nice.

Got a crap load of Wii games today as they were clearing them out in a local Crack Converters:

Namco Museum Remix
Disaster Day Of Crisis
Far Cy Vengeance
Splinter Cell Double Agent
Need For Speed Carbon
Need For Speed Pro Street
Boom Blox
Battalion Wars 2

I also picked up these 2 games off eBay as they were on a £10 BIN (for both) and still sealed!

House Of The Dead 2&3
Lego Indiana Jones

Post by: tomwaits on Feb 18, 2013, 09:16 AM
Wii mania! Namco Museum Remix includes the fun Pac n Roll game from the DS. It's a little hard to control, but still a decent Pac-man themed/Marble Madness style game. Galaga Remix is a simple on-rails light gun game. Remix also includes the first home release of Pac & Pal in its virtual arcade. Remix is a decent compilation of old and new... don't know why they bothered releasing the 'Megamix' follow-up though.

A couple of 'upgrade' purchases for me over the weekend:
- Bought Bit.Trip Complete for the Wii at $10. Already had all of the Bit.Trip games as Wiiware downloads, but the Bit.Trip Complete retail release includes new challenge levels and some bonus material.
- Bought Patapon 2 for PSP at $5. Already had the download voucher retail release from a previous clearance sale, but happy to find the cheap upgrade to the UMD version.

Nice! A couple of bargains there. Rage is the prettiest game I have played on the XBox 360, so it's worth that for the eye-candy alone. Deus Ex is a really good game and you can have lots of fun with it if you just don't expect it to be as good as the original.

:-) Continuing with my: 'Did.....get unfair reviews' mission, be interested in hearing thoughts from owners of Namco Museum Remix on Wii.

Took a hammering at review in GAMEStm, 2/10.

Claims of:half-hearted Wii controls, tediousily simple gameplay, Galaga reduced to a simple light gun game, where enemies seem to have forgotten to fire back and calls the compilation an insult to retro enthusiasts.

I haven't read the GamesTM review but 2/10 seems ridiculously low... metacritic average is 49% but that's dragged down a little by the GamesTM score (lowest of the bunch) and recurring complaints about the initial price of $40. I probably paid $10 and was pretty happy with it for the price.

The highlight is the port of Pac n Roll from the DS (72% on metacritic). Wii controls are a little awkward but it's still a solid game. The Galaga enemies are dropped into a simple light gun game... it's not really Galaga, but it's still fun and nostalgia carries some weight for me. The other Remix games were nothing special. The virtual arcade has an odd mix of less known games so probably not appealing to the casual player. First appearance of Pac & Pal in any Namco Collection if that sparks any interest.

The follow-up 'Namco Museum Megamix' was a budget re-release that added more of the well known classics to the virtual arcade and a Grobda Remix that looks pretty good.

Bought some PSN Japan points to download Dark Mist with the JPN exclusive expansion pack and Raystorm HD.

Seems like a lot of content has been quietly vanishing from PSN lately. A few things that I'd delayed purchases were no longer available when I had the urge to buy them recently. Sega Rally Online Arcade, Zen Pinball 1 DLC tables, and Spelunker Black were all removed from PSN in the last few months without any warning. Figured I should get these ancient Japan exclusives before they're 'gone' too.

I have purchased Starcraft and been given XCOM both on PC of late. Not played the latter yet but Starcraft is epic in every way.

so I bought this recently on the cheap being a fan of the original and wanting to get into the comic I felt I had to buy the sequel... it didn't get fantastic reviews mostly it was slated for its short length especially when compared to the original but so far I'm loving every minute of it!

Very much enjoyed this on PS3, not as good as original, but new developer and all that....

Big fan of the graphic novels, but i'd personally stay clear of the cross-over stuff (Darkness Vs Aliens or Vs Hulk etc),  it just does'nt really work.

cool I'll avoid lol, they rarely do

Yeah I loved the first one, it was dark and emotional and was a proper massive journey into a terrifying world, I loved every minute of it. The graphical style of this one is nice but I think I preferred the original

Mark of the Ninja is going cheap on xbla so I took them up on their generosity and it's looking very promising indeed.  The graphics, or art style if you prefer, are beautiful.  The lighting looks great and encourages the stealthy ninja approach.  Sound also plays a vital role and is also 'visible' when using ninja skills.  All very cool and exactly as a ninja game should be.

The gameplay allows for three different approaches to complete the game and while this should prove to lengthen the time I spend playing  no doubt it adds a huge slice of variety.

Slick, precise, brutal.  Buy it!

After seeing the post about a TMNT games, I was inspired to buy this modern TMNT game:

That game is on the Wii too and they have it in my local game shop, I was considering buying it so let me know what it's like!

This just arrived today!  Put it in just to test it to make sure it was fine (used game).  Love the animation on it!  Looks just like the movie!

Laird's seemingly aiming for a complete Wii games collection the way he's going!

Careful that Freeloader disc doesn't brick your Wii though.

I don't think it would brick the Wii, but the Freeloader only works with very early Wiis that never had a firmware update.

Yeah I found that out, my Wii is pretty new so I doubt it will work. I was given it for free so doesn't matter too much.

The coolest "soldier" of any game and as you gather from my avatar - I'm a KZ fan.

Bought it on EBay from a games shop in Lincolnshire. Off to collect it on Wednesday.

It's 6ft 5" and it's eyes light up orangey / red

I'm shocked that Laird now owns a videogame with '2013' in the title.
