Nintendo announced Wii U launch date and pricing details today:
- Novemeber 18th for the US, November 30th for EU/UK, December 8th (!) for JPN
- $299/$349 versions for the US
- 210/250 GBP for the UK
The higher priced model includes the Nintendo Land game, a storage upgrade from 8GB to 32GB, and charging cradle for the controller.
Also some new details that the drive will be blu-ray based, with much faster transfer rates than the PS3 or 360. Should be fast enough to avoid installing any data before playing.
I'm not a big Nintendo fan, but the price is reasonable and there will be two new titles from Platinum Games... one of my favorite current gen developers. I'll be pre-ordering the $349 package.
The higher priced model sounds like a very good deal.
Yeah I'm not the biggest Nintendo fan either but the price isn't too bad and I skipped the Wii so I think I will be getting one at launch. Actually getting kinda excited now that I think about it.
My Wii just sets covered up protected from dust. Same for the Xbox 360. The Wii U really sounds like a nice system. I just am not a modern or online gamer. Expensive lesson for me to learn.
Most of my Wii favorites were Wiiware downloadable games. Taito, Konami, and Capcom all offered great remakes of retro titles for Wiiware.
The Bit.Trip series for Wiiware is awesome too. All of the Bit.Trip games are now on a budget priced retail release called Bit.Trip Complete. If you've never played them, it's a bunch of Atari inspired retro gaming for ~$15.
I tried to follow the releases with Nintendo Power magazine but now that they are shutting down I would appreicate any info tomwaits.

hell...it's why I come here to speak to real people or are they??? hmmmm..Â
LOL! I think I am I have never plugged any other site.
I tried to follow the releases with Nintendo Power magazine but now that they are shutting down I would appreicate any info tomwaits.
All of the Wiiware games are available from the Nintendo Store on the Wii's main menu... same place as the Virtual Console games. There are playable demos available for most of the top selling games.
From a quick look at my Wii's SD card, some of my favorites are: World of Goo, Space Invaders Get Even, Bit.Trip series, Fluidity, Art of Balance, Bubble Bobble Plus/Puzzle Bobble Plus/Arkanoid Plus, Megaman 9, Castlevania Rebirth/Gradius Rebirth, Excitebike World Rally, Toki Tori, Swords and Soldiers, Strong Bad: 8-bit is enough.
If I made a list of my 10 favorite Wii games, I think half of them would be Wiiware.
The ones I have seen really look good. It does not really help the full price game sales but it should help keep interest in the Wii console.
I don't think most Wii owners even know that the Wiiware games exist.
And, most of the 'hardcore' gamers have hacked their Wii and pirate these tiny downloads while they bitch about how the Wii is technically inferior to the other current gen consoles. I don't think any of the Wiiware games sold very well and I'm not sure that WiiUware will get the same 3rd party support.
At least Wiiware and VC purchases can be transferred to the WiiU. And, if the Nintendo Store is better marketed on WiiU maybe some of these games will get another chance at a larger audience.
I play way more downloadable games on the modern consoles then I do disc based games. The price is better and a lot of them are retro style games or remakes like Tom mentioned and a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to playing some of the Wiiware games I missed on the Wii when I get a Wii U.
Just found this cool trailer for launch game Zombie U.
You guys on the other side of the pond should really enjoy it.

is it backwards compatible? and whats the price point if you wanted to buy a second lcd controller? I think its a reasonable price for the machine, seeing as its technically no better than the 360 or ps3 other than the alleged faster blu ray drive, but I just can't get excited about new nintendo consoles... mind you I doubt I will buy any of the next gen to be fair, depends what the new xbox turns out like...
I did really like a bunch of games on the Wii:
Madworld
Knights sequel
Sonic Colours
Wii Sports
Wii Sports Resort
Last Story
Goldeneye
Monster Hunter Tri
but there constant arsing around with the control structure just puts me off
Yes it's completely backwards compatible with Wii games and controllers, they're not even including a regular controller with the system cause they figure everyone still has their Wii motes and nun chucks. As for a second LCD I'm not sure what they're doing in the UK but in NA they're not even selling them extra at first. They said they wouldn't have time to manufacture them in time and no launch game needed a second LCD controller. I haven't heard what they will cost though when they do start selling them.
I just meant if you want a second player to be able to use one... its just a bit of a stupid gimmick if only one person can/needs to use it and the rest have to put up with the abysmal Wii controllers... but that's just me
Nintendo said that there won't be any games that support a 2nd WiiU pad until 2013. I'm not sure how much they'll be supported anyway. I'm not convinced that the Wii U has the bandwidth to pump full-screen gameplay out to multiple pad's LCDs simultaneously. It will probably just be menus, maps, or stats on the controller screen... adding extra pads will probably be expensive just for minor novelty value. They'd be better off supporting DS/3DS for additional players.
For me, I'm far more interested in the Wii U Pro Controller than the gimmicky tablet anyway. On the Wii, the games that I like are much better suited to the Classic Controller than a Wiimote.
whats the Wii U pro controller look like? I was tempted by games like the Conduit and Metroid Prime 3 but because neither had PROPER controller support I didn't bother
Here it is... I'm hoping that most 'hardcore'/multiplatform games will support it.
That's a copy of a 360 controller.
Cheeky monkeys.

How dare you say that! Nintendo don't copy anything! They are innovaters don't you know! :-X
yeah, innovative.... xbox controller "innovates" by raising the left analogue stick above the level of the right one... Nintendo "Innovates" by ALSO raising the Right stick up to the same level... its pretty ridiculous when you think about it that way but from a purely non-biased perspective it actually looks pretty nice/reasonable
I agree with Laird! To me it looks like a modified N64 controller which came out before the X-Box.
I was taking the pissÂ

All the things Nintendo claim to have innovated that have stolen off other people.
So, I guess I'm supposed to be excited about the We-You?Â
Only if you get excited about waking up and thanking Nintendo every morning for saving video games as we know them.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!Â
lol...U!
F U !
F U !
Is that their next controller?Â
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
I meant TrekMD forgot the U. LOL!
no the FU is there next console
Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
I meant TrekMD forgot the U. LOL!
I was just trying to fake excitement by screaming Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! LOL It got Laird so excited he named their next console! LOL
Protect your new console name Laird. We all know Nintendo might swipe the name.
Wii U will be region locked.

Not a big surprise, but region free would have been nice...
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/36 ... the-wii-u/
I should be used to Nintendo by now. Region free would have been nice.
If any US members are still looking to pre-order, Walmart is taking 'layaway' orders this morning. Put down 10% and they'll hold one for you on launch day.
Early signs look like the Wii U will be another scalper's goldmine. People were bidding up to $700 for pre-ordered consoles on ebay last week. But, Wii U ebay listings have been pulled for now since ebay items have to be delivered within 30 days. Ebay scalping will return next week...
Right ok, I just got back from Play Expo and thanks to Mootown I got to have a nice long play on the Wii U and thought I would post my thoughts.
The games available to play were Zombie U, Mario, Nintendo Land, Tekken Tag, Batman Arkham Asylum, Darkstalkers 2 and Rayman Origins. Out of those the only games I didn't play were Mario (no interest) and Rayman because I was too busy playing other games and forgot
The Console: The design is awful, it looks like a 5 1/4 inch disk drive for a C64.
Screen Controller: Much much better than I actually thought it would be. Quite comfy with the molded hand grips and the screen is really good. It was thicker than I thought it would be but also not as heavy as I thought too. My only problem with it was I felt it needed to be a touch longer and my hands seemed to slide off the bottom of it too easily.
Joypad Controller: Smaller than I expected, this was a good thing in my eyes. I much prefered it to the XBox 360 controller and it was far far lighter too.
Tekken Tag - This was pretty much identical to the other versions that are already out. The version I played though suffered from some serious controller lag that made it very frustrating to play. I was assured that this is going to be sorted out before launch
Batman: Arkham Asylum - Graphically it was nice although a few textures still needed finishing off, was only a demo version. I actually really enjoyed the fighting parts but found the searching for evidence to be really boring. I also didn't much like the way the Wii U controller was used, I found it to be awkward, confusing and cumbersome.
Darkstalkers 2 - Wasn't impressed with this game at all. I was assured it was unfinished but it suffered from horendous slowdown in its current state. It was graphically uninteresting, boring to play and just felt very generic. Reminded me of something that would have appeared on the 360 5 years ago.
Nintendo Land - I really enjoyed this title, lots of realy fun mini-games in one package that made great use of the Wii U controller. I especially enjoyed playing as the archer in the Zelda game where I got to do my own thing on the Wii U controller and almost had my own little mission while being part of a team.
Zombie U - This game was easily the most impressive with its dark brooding visuals and imposing atmosphere. I absolutely sucked at playing it, mainly due to the complicated (for me) controls. This is definately the Wii U's stand-out title although I am not sure its worth buying the system for.
Overall the Wii U was very hit and miss, there was some excellent stuff and some not so good stuff - some of which can be fixed before launch. The one thing I will say is that I hope they sort out the games before launch as they are currently pretty underwhelming in the most part. I like that it is trying to be different, I just hope that Nintendo (and other developers) figure out the best way to actually do this.
Very cool you got to try it out! Not sure if it's normal for games to still have the issues you encountered this close to launch but hopefully they get them fixed in time.
I actually completely change my mind on the Wii U and didn't pre order it. I want to see what Sony and Microsoft are doing with their next systems before I decide. I'm going to be very tempted though when Aliens Colonial Marines comes out, but that's not till at least February so lots of time to wait and see.
Thanks for the first impressions! And, it even scores a few positive comments from Laird!!
Nintendo Land seems to be winning a lot of people over. It's not the system seller they had with Wii Sports, but should keep my kids happy. With Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, and Wonderful 101 delayed until early 2013, Zombie U will probably be my only full price retail game purchase for 2012.
Hopefully Nano Assault Neo and Toki Tori 2 make it onto WiiUWare before the end of the year. New console and four games for Christmas.

I'm not too happy with the recent news that the Wii U Pro controller won't work with Wii games. Looks like I'll be waiting for a cheap price on that and just continue to play most Wii & WiiU games with the Wii's classic controller pro.
You're lucky you have all those controllers already Tom. That was another reason I was put off from pre ordering one. For myself or anyone who doesn't own a Wii I would have to buy a Wii mote, a Wii nunchuk, and a pro controller. The 350.00 bundle seemed like a good price but when you add all the extra controllers I'd be paying closer to 450.00 which is more then I'm willing to spend right now. I understand Nintendo did that to get the price down but it still kinda sucks for people new to the Wii. Still looking forward to hearing what you and others have to say when you get it though. Good impressions may change my mind yet again.
Thanks for the updates and glad to see Laird can like a Nintendo system.
The media, as ever seems very keen to jump on all the things that have gone 'wrong' so far with Wii U, likes of: Slow O/S patch download, Game Pad battery life (which did strike me as rather poor), poor build quality (casing scratches easily, buttons rattle if you shake the pad etc), slow CPU causing developer headaches, worse than 360 quality performance etc, but...
As a consumer, i hope it is a sucsess, as 1)We need competition in the marketplace.2) at least it seems games minded, unlike rumours of say Xbox Next (2 models? 1 a mere Windows 8 based, kinect 2, casual games/streaming of content, set top box).
And to be fair, if you went back and looked at just what's been added to say PS3 via firmware updates or the PS2 launch +1st wave games (jaggies, PS1.5 textures etc), or compared Halo 3 to Halo 4 (visually) or early Snes games suffering slowdown etc, far too early to say if it's a dissapointment.
I've never been impressed with the Nintendo consoles since the Gamecube died, I've always felt that they, like Sony and Apple, simply cash in on consumers gullibility and willingness to part with money for things familiar. Case in point all the constant Maro, Zelda, Metroid etc rehashes, its just pretty shameful! I mean the only franchise xbox has that they are still releasing now is Halo and Gears of War but none of them have been saturated to the degree that nintendos 1st party franchises have.
Having said that I am probably not even going to bother with a new console next gen, the 360 is enough for me and I won't even consider a new one if it doesn't have 100% backwards compatibility out of the box. if it doesn't they can just swivel
here is something about the wii u that you guys might find interesting:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/inventor-of--p ... 05598.html
In fairness though, MS not been in the console buisness as long as Nintendo and thus lack franchises of thier own to 'exploit' as it were.Attempts at creating established franchises on Xbox 1 were hit and miss:
Blinx, Brute Force, Quantum Redshift (MS just threw money at Curly Monsters and said we need something to match Wipeout Fusion, developers signed a 2-game deal, which MS walked away from).
There was a Freelancer Sequel (Starlancer-Freelancer-Freelancer 2) in the works (footage of it is on youtube), but MS canned it.Halo Wars? soon as it was done, MS closed studio (gutted as these were people who the did Age Of Empires games).
Rare had Kameco 2, Conker 2, a Deus Ex inspired Perfect Dark:Core in the works, but MS put them onto Kinect stuff.
I am really impressed with what I have seen of the Wii U. Not saying I will buy one anytime soon but it seems Nintendo has this system going in the right direction.
Hmmm, I am getting less impressed.
The main reason being that the staff on the Nintendo stand PROMISED me that all the things that were wrong with the games I played back at Play Expo were going to be fixed and apparently they havn't. This seriously makes me doubt Nintendo and this console can be a success.
Laird what is your middle name Scrooge? I am disappointed that the Nintendo Power magazine is down to one final issue but I still hold out hope that the Wii U will be a success.
Pretty cool that someone can watch tv, while you still play the Wii U on the small screen controller. No more fights about shutting the system off because of a missed program.
Atari founder Nolan Bushnell is definately NOT a Wii U fan!!!!
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/inventor-of--p ... 05598.html
yeah I just posted that in the thread I started, I could've SWORN I posted it here too but apparently not lol, nevermind!
I heard they have only sold over 400,000 units. That is a failure by today's standards.
I heard they have only sold over 400,000 units. That is a failure by today's standards.
To be fair that's all they had available and they did sell out. I think they do that on purpose for console launches though, create more demand.
Really? I remember 500,000 units being the sales goal.
Surprising to me that there's not much marketing/hype for the console. Not sure if Nintendo knew all the consoles would sell out until after the holidays and didn't bother advertising or if there's no interest. One of my kids announced that we had the new Wii U during 'share time' at elementary school... none of the kids in the class knew what it was.
I see that Nintendo are claiming they sold out yet there are loads of reports of the Deluxe packs still sitting on the shelves in game stores.
That is interesting.
so the Wii U is pretty much fcuked then huh guys? To put into context HOW fcuked it is, black friday week sales, the week it released, hit 400,000.... the same week saw 750,000 XBOX 360's sell... thats pretty shameful that a brand new release could be trounced so handily by a 7 year old frickin console huh?
Well, a few posts back Laird renamed it the FU, so I'd say he nailed it!Â
yeah... I think they just REALLY badly timed this release to compete with COD and Halo and it just blew up and shat all over their faces. Shame but you guys know how I feel about Nintendo and Sony, maybe it'll make room for Sega to pop up next year with an uber awesome new console that is light years more powerful than the xbox and ps3 and will toast you some waffles at the same time!! And I'll inherit £30mil when I turn 35 as wellÂ

lol

If wishes were horses...
Would'nt say Wii U is F**ked (though i'd say the Vita seems to be heading flatout towards that area at alarming speed), but honestly don't see it having the sales the Wii did.
Market has changed great deal since Wii landed (lot of Wii's bought for Wii fit etc, now boxed up on top of cupboards etc from personal exp.) and those owners won't be upgrading or indeed were bought as piracy so rife on the format.
The weak CPU is going to hamper PS3/360 ports it seems, as unless developers start coding so the GPU does the lions share of the work, it's going to suffer bottlenecks, so i could'nt say see someone buy it instead of a replacement PS3/360.
It's time as new kid on the block will be short, as fully expect PS4/Xbox Next annoucements early in 2013, so that really leaves folks looking for the family exp. and/or the Nintendo exclusives.
Think had the system launched 2 years earlier, it'd be in far better position than it currently is, but never understimate Nintendo, they may surprise us all yet.
More likely Apple would have another crack at home console market/set top box than Sega.
Pippin was a failure, but if anyone's got the money needed these days to be the market leader within a generation, it's Apple, it sure as hell ain't Sega or Sony.
Sadly seems days of dedicated gaming machines long gone.

Google is more likely I think and they are backing the Android based OUYA console that is coming out soon, as are Nvidia
If Google start to get a foot in the door, so to speak, you can expect Apple to steamroll in.
It'll be the MS VS Sony all over again, 1 not wanting the other to make head room into the living room.
I'd expect a 'base unit' type device from Apple, you plug your iPad or iPod into it and it's got HDMI out etc, if not a smart TV.
well with any luck there will be another console industry crash where upon all the asshole companies bleeding the industry dry will shrivel up and die and something better and solely GAMES BASED will come up in their place??
Launch weekend sales figures for Europe,
Wii - 325,000 units
Wii U - 187,000 units
Oops!
I'm sure the cheerleaders will try explaining it by citing the economic slowdown/recession rather than contemplate the possibility people just don't want Wii U.Â
I wonder if the west coast shipping clerks going on strike in California last month affected the sales in the United States.
And Nintendo claimed they sold 400,000Â
apparently I was deeply misguided in stating that the Wii was a failure based on the (however unconfirmed) figure of 400,000 units sold, I still think its a pretty bad sign that it will not do well. Though many people are swearing blind that other consoles have not sold that many on their release dates. I say that until we hear the final sales figure we can't draw any conclusions but the general press and impressions I'm hearing from most people I speak to are less than encouraging
which makes me happy because maybe if Nintendo quit Sega will come back! but I've said that before so I'll shut up lol
Much as i'd love to see Sega return to the hardware market, looking at what they've done since going software only, does'nt fill me with confidence:
DC ports to PSN/XBL that lack widescreen mode, canning of a promising Aliens RPG, yet the god awful AVP by Rebellion is green lit, the cease and desist on Bombergames SOR Remake, yet they have nothing of thier own to offer up, lack of games on PS3 version of Ultimate Megadrive Collection (seriousily, just how much space went unused there?), Chu Chu Rocket not appearing on XBL/PSN etc etc...
They've a good few lessons to learn before i'd be tempted.
Much as i'd love to see Sega return...
... They've a good few lessons to learn before i'd be tempted.
Indeed they have but the company have done plenty to be proud of too in recent years, imho.
For example,
OutRun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, Vanquish, Sonic Colours, Sonic Generations, securing the rights to publish the
Football Manager franchise,
Space Channel 5 Part. II 'HD', some cracking retro efforts on iOS,
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Jet Set Radio 'HD',
NiGHTS into Dreams HD, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, Daytona USA HD, Guardian Heroes HD, Renegade Ops, MadWorld, The Conduit, The Conduit 2, Rez HD, Bayonetta, After Burner Climax, the
Yakuza series, etc...
It's not all bad!Â
Enjoyed Vanquish, tad cliched and little short, but decent enough, only dabbled with Yakuza series (ie tried demos of..), The Conduit games seemed more technical showcases than steriling FPS level design, but i could be wrong, bought Renegade Ops, was loving until near end? stage where your trapped on elevator platform with monster tanks etc dropping in from above-might be a homage to likes of SOR etc, but when you've bugger all room to move, ruined game for myself.
iOS gaming? whilst i'm an iOS device owner, you won't find me gaming on it.
I also would mention Afterburner:Black Falcon PSP and Monster World collection, which i recently bought on XBLA, but for someone with Sega's rich MD and Arcade back cat.to fall apon, there's been an awful lot ignored.
I see the Wii U is already seeing price cuts from the main online retailers here, hasn't sold anywhere near what Wii did on launch weekend in Europe and from this picture at least it's not exactly selling out in the USA either...
Place your bets as to how long before it gets a big price cut.
Sites like Digital Foundary been saying, save your money till it gets a price drop, as most 3rd party games, from performance point of view, struggle to match 360/PS3 and with key Nintendo games like Pikimin 3 being delayed, looks like a wait and see approach will pay off.

Deceiving pic. Pretty sure it isn't from the USA... the signs aren't in English and the prices don't match US retail pricing.
Also, that pic might have been taken on launch day or right after re-stock... probably before the store opened. Deceiving.

Sorry... didn't catch the sarcasm. :D
Went to several stores and surprised that all three systems were in stock. Playstation 3's, Xbox 360's, Wii U's both models and plenty of Nintendo 3DS systems.
Another wonderful product review by the respected, unbiased and objective Ashens.
So some edited highlights,
* poor engonomics with the controller
* poor battery life between rechanges for the controller
* terribly slow access to the likes of Youtube
* 24 seconds to exit to desktop from a game
* appallingly low storage capacity regardless of which model purchased
* PSU external to the console and it's the size of a space station
* cheapskate last-gen USB 2.0 ports when USB 3.0 is now standard
* piss poor CPU that heavily impacts on system performance
* chronic frame rates on third-party games
* ports are inferior to the games on the seven year old Xbox 360
* Gamepad integration that actually hampers gameplay in most games
* a non-capacitative touch screen on the Gamepad like we're in 2004 still
* system updates theat make PS3 system updates look quick
* e-store game prices that make PSN look value for money, e.g. ZombiU £55, Nintendo Land £50
* Batman AC port: "cumbersome & annoying... much lower frame rate... not as good a game... controller a right pain in the arse... inferior version... all a bit disappointing... cut scenes glitch"
* Rabbids Land: "so bad I'm not even going to capture any footage... really half-arsed... really not good at all... utterly worthless... go for Nintendo Land"
* ZombiU: "very let down... incredibly dull... so repetitive... graphics aren't great, slightly worse than an Xbox 360 launch game... some textures are very ropey up-close... animations are weak... so bored... feels a bit half-arsed" Has loading screens when opening doors!
* Nintendo Land: "really good fun... not that bad to play on your own"
* Assassin's Creed III: "what ruins it is bugs... crashed on me several times... if you want to play this play it on 360 or PS3"
* "avoid games for other systems"
No wonder folk aren't buying this in anywhere near the quantities that Wii sold on its launch. It seems the success of Wii was a blip for a company whose each and every home console has sold fewer units than the one before until Wii. Let's see if this thing sells more than GameCube did...
I have to agree.. I am a huge fan of gaming in general regardless of the badge,, If it has games i like i will buy it, BUT and there is a big BUT here.. The Wii U does not offer me the gear change i need or want in terms of gaming that i would want for £300 of my hard earned cash.. sub £200 maybe i would have looked more closely, given time i am sure this will come good to at least the masses if not true gamers.
Tekken Tag 2 appears to be the latest of the multi-platform games to reac Wii U with visual comprimises.
Keeps same 720P (with Dynamic Frame Buffering), 60 FPS as PS3+360, same quality FMV as PS3 etc, but...
Some visual F.X have been reduced in quality, others removed, it has grainer motion blur, more glitches, lower res.textures in places, things like trees, flowers+plants removed from areas, making them appear more barren, an interactive, snow covered floor has gone, replaced by just an icy ground etc.
Dunno IF it's the GPU hampering it, or developers not coding properly for it but it's really struggling to meet PS3/360 on level ground on good few Mult-platform releases.
Know many developers took few years to code for PS3 properly (and likes of E.A etc switch from 360 to PS3 as lead console development platform), but Ps3 had less Ram avaiable in areas than 360 and, a key point, TIME on it's side.
With Wii U, it's a precious few months to get established and still be the 'new kid on the block', when PS4/Xbox Next demo's are shown off, early next year i expect, spotlight of focus will shift to them, as, i suspect will development focus.

Totally agree with you regarding the price point. For such a low powered system it may be worth a punt for more people at around £200 just to see what the gimmicky controller is all about. At around £300 for the non-Tesco Value model Ninty are having a laugh.

My god, and this is one of the games that's supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, quality PS360 port. Oops!
Am i reading this right?
Hacking (group?) Failoverfl0w, claimed to have hacked the Wii U (already!), posted security keys online? this lot hacked the Wii and PS3?, but took years to crack PS3, weeks to get Wii U security keys?
Considering how rife piracy is on DS+Wii, i'd have thought security would have been 1 area Nintendo made as water tight as possible.
From what I've just read it appears hackers have found an exploit that allows the 'homebrew channel' in Wii legacy mode only, i.e. they've not hacked the Wii U itself yet. One person appears to claim they've hacked Wii U fully but much doubt is being cast on his claims.
Regardless of which is the case it's pretty shocking stuff, like you say, considering how much the likes of DS and Wii suffered from piracy.
I see the price of Wii U here in the UK continues to drop like a stone. From the sales figures I've seen the console sold nowehere near as many units on its launch weekend as Wii, PS3 or Xbox 360 did. The seven year old Xbox 360 is reputedly outselling Wii U and Wii combined by quite a margin. It seems folk just aren't interested in Nintendo's new home console and, let's be honest, it's not exactly difficult to see why.
I will most likely pick up this machine in something like 3-5 years' time, along with the dozen or so games that will be worth having.

I do understand where you're coming from in saying that but at the same time can't escape the thought that it'd be akin to buying a ZX81 just as the Speccy was truly hitting its stride. Maybe that's a flawed comparison, I don't know!
Judging by the specs, it already is like buying a ZX81 with the Spectrum already being out <grin>.

Meeow!
Wow, further to my previous post regarding the price of Wii U dropping like a stone I see Zavvi have now slashed the price of the Premium model to only £224.99 shipped. Is anyone buying this console, lol?!!
Will wait for £150 and I will be.Â
Well, I bit at that £224.99 price for the Wii U 32GB (black) Premium pack with
Nintendo Land!
Maybe I'll explain my rationale for having ordered the console (expected delivery 7-9th January) after having mostly derided it for so long and because one of the forum's admin' is berating me here in the Chatbox for it, lol!Â

Wow!

I think I'm the only one here who actually owns a Wii U, so I'll share some positives/suggestions about DCRip's new purchase...
- Sonic Racing Transformed has exclusive extras on the Wii U. Shinobi and Monkey Ball multiplayer minigames, play on the gamepad, and you can race as Miis.
- There's a free Rayman Legends demo available on the eShop. It's great.
- Mighty Switch Force and Nano Assault Neo are better than most of the retail releases. WiiUware also has the best version of Trine 2 (director's cut).
- Nintendoland has some fun multiplayer minigames... only a few have any depth for single player though.
- Wii U has the only console version of Scribblenauts.
- The gamepad is great for streaming video services, but the gamepad's battery life is a nuisance. I usually just keep it plugged in while streaming video... need a larger capacity battery.

Methinks you've just answered your own question here.
Your buying it....
:-)
Though i'm honestly curious to know what's caused a change of heart.
Only Pikimin and Rayman seem to interest myself, niether out yet.

;-) If streaming video is being touted as a key plus point for a GAMES machine, then i know modern gaming is getting worse.
The rest of the list-did read Trine was best console version as far as Wii U version goes, i'd also add that Ninja Gaiden 3 has FIXED a lot of the gameplay flaws found on PS3/360 versions (see? i can be positive about Wii U.)
Mini-games hmnn, smacks of DC VMU to myself.
Wii U would need something like a Demon's Souls for myself, Killer Exclusive that offered up great solo and online play.
;-) If streaming video is being touted as a key plus point for a GAMES machine, then i know modern gaming is getting worse.
Not really a key point of the games side, but it is a key point of the hardware purchase for me. Since I don't have an iPad or tablet, portable video on the gamepad adds value.
Also, the gamepad is nothing like a DC VMU for minigames. It's larger and higher resolution than both DS screens combined. Transitioning gameplay from the TV to the gamepad doesn't lose much visual detail. The exclusive Sonic Racing minigames are setup to allow 'sneaking' gameplay with one player on the gamepad playing against the other players who are split screen on the TV. Some of the Nintendoland minigames are similar with 'sneaking' or 'independent' objectives on the gamepad while playing within the same game as the on-screen players. It's a gimmick but sometimes it works well.
I thought I'd share this:
Atari founder is 'baffled by the Wii U
Last line is hilarious:
"In fact, he had similar comments when the original Wii launched in 2006. We all know how that turned out."

Well, to be fair Tom, i have an iPad, but would never be seen gaming on it, yet to good few folk i know, it's a key selling point.
I do find this..merging of media and gaming to be somewhat ironic, Sony with PS3 it only does...everything, is a key example.Go back to PS1 era and Son MOCKED the 3DO etc for being multi-media devices, said 3DO was the Swiss Army Knife of gaming, had a knife, fork, etc but you would'nt eat your dinner with 1.
Know it's all the rage.
The mini-games, sorry i should have been a lot clearer, what i poorly put across was, as a DC owner at the time, the VMU mini-games were often seen as making the DC version of a game that little bit special, as you could unlock stuff in main game etc.Thing is, i never bothered with them to any real degree, just engrossed myself in main game, so again with Wii U, i, personally don't see it as being a key feature.
For what Nintendo are asking for a 2012 piece of hardware, that's been crippled with a slower than PS3/360 CPU, i'd rather they concentrated on getting things like Pikimin 3 out, rather than rely on 3rd party games, which often at best, barely match, let alone equal PS3/360 versions, as having exclusive mini-games or using Wii U screen as a map, not really doing anything THAT different to my eyes (cynical as they are).If all it's doing is something i can access on existing formats (ie if pausing game brings up said map screen) then the potential offered is'nt YET being used by Nintendo OR 3rd parties.
Sony squandered the PS3-PSP link up, doing so little to really push PS3-Vita link up, unless they do a lot more with PS4-Vita link up, it'll strike me same way as Wii U currently does, rich potential, but just being used for novelty value.
... Though i'm honestly curious to know what's caused a change of heart.
Here's what I've posted on RG to save you the trauma of visting that place!
My rationale for having bought this console that I've derided mercilessly for good reason is,
* I already have a kick ass gaming PC so if I wish to own the best version of (most) multi-platform game releases then I'm catered for
* I won't be buying another Sony home console over my dead body after the PS3 YLOD debacle, how Sony didn't deal with it and how Sony has treated its customers
* I've no interest in the next Xbox or PlayStation as they won't be as powerful as my gaming PC anyway
* The fact that like PSN (not PS+) and most PC games one doesn't have to pay a subscription to play online
* Wii U offers something different - not necessarily innovative or necessarily better, just something different from the norm
Having a PS3 plus Wii catered for my home videogaming needs this past generation and I kinda see having a PC plus Wii U being the equivalent for this coming generation. Sure, the Wii U has its issues (a CPU that's actually actually slower than that of the six year old PS3 and seven year old Xbox 360 being chief among them but there are myriad other issues too) but at the price I paid I thought it worth a punt. Maybe I'll detest it with a passion, maybe I won't. From the current sales figures maybe I'll end up having bought what turns out to be Ninty's last ever home console. Maybe the glorified Dreamcast VMU concept will prove misguided, maybe it won't. Time will tell...
I don't envisage myself buying all that many games for it given that superior versions of most multi-platform games will be available on PC at lower prices too. It's the more novel stuff I'm most interested in playing such as ZombiU, albeit that game has more than its fair share of issues. I'm keen to play games that make intelligent use of the Gamepad integration plus some of Ninty's IP such as the next F-Zero and Super Mario Kart releases. I certainly couldn't give a fig about the likes of 'New, New, I Can't Believe It's Not New Super Mario Bros. DX Lost Worlds HD', the lame third-party ports, anything Zelda or all the cutesy/kiddie/lifestyle games that'll doubtlessly form a large part of the console's games library.
I've not lost the plot completely as there's no way I'll ever be buying a 3DS and if the retailer from whom I ordered the console should cancel my order then I won't exactly be crying either, lol!
And,
Much in the same way as I saw PS3 being my proper console and owning a Wii as being an additional novelty item I now see my gaming PC as being my proper gaming platform with having a Wii U to experience the more quirky and novel stuff. A curio and a frippery to go alongside a genuinely powerful gaming platform, it could be said.
Other than the included Nintendo Land, of the retail games currently available I'm most interested in owning,
* Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition
- because it has all the DLC from the PS360 version already included despite having a few minor technical issues relative to what's on those consoles
* ZombiU
- to experience the Wii U concept albeit that I suspect the expected sequel will offer a more fleshed out gaming experience
- will wait until its price drops dramatically before purchasing.
* Sega & All-Stars Racing Transformed
- seemingly the only third-party retail game port that's better than the PS360 version
- if the Wii U version's features aren't particularly novel I'll get the technically superior PC version though

Good job I'm a non-believer then!
I thought I'd share this:
Atari founder is 'baffled by the Wii U
I can recal when likes of Sega, Atari+Nintendo were pouring scorn on Sony's chances of sucsess with the Playstation, when they annouced they were entering the 32 Bit CD console arena, they said Sony lacked the experience they had in terms of marketing and supporting a games console and look what happened with PS1.
The original Game Boy was written off by many industry pundits, due to it's 'primitive' specs.
Nintendo might have stumbled often on the path (Bulky Drive, Virtual Boy etc), but given way the likes of the terrible screens on orig.GB and GBA (no backlight) and removal of things like headphone socket on GBA SP, i'm often amazed what their user base is willing to over look.
Hell, if they can sell a Wii U to DCRIP.......anything is possible.

Big post to wade through, so initally i'll look at a few key points:
Thing i find, even as a console owner, modern gaming is seemingly going towards the bigger=better route, no doubt Skyrim's game world is bigger than that of Oblivions, but it bored me shiteless compared to Oblivion as the wow factor had by then long worn off and it felt over familar, sure the PC version looks stacks better, but the bare bones game, i'd have same issues with.
The MOD scene on PC however IS a reason i'd stick with a kick ass PC for gaming.Had high hopes Sony would be doing LOT more to allow MODS on PS3 versions of games, started well with Unreal T. 3, Keyboard+Mouse support+MODS (skins+map packs), but know of NO other games since that support such.
Just completed Max Payne 3, 360, FAR too cinematic, again, sure PC version looks lot better, but it's a shallow exp, so i CAN see why you'd be looking to Wii U to get the games that offer the FUN element-It's reason why at moment i'm ignoring my PS3/360 To Play..pile in favour of the PSP To Play pile...
The FREE online...now, i used to be taken in by things like FREE and UNLIMITED as far as online went, FREE online play on PSN, yet awful servers (believe Wii U's online side below that of PSN) and i had unlimited Broadband with Talk Talk, but service was so poor, i'd rather pay the extra for B.T and have gone GOLD on 360, as whilst i loathe the idea of paying £3 a month whilst the service is riddled with ads, it does offer far better online service, so justifies me paying few quid ontop of my B.B payments each month.
Tekken Tag, not a fan of Tekken series, but:Is Wii U version CHEAPER than say someone buying the PS3/360 version new or 2nd hand and buying the DLC?.
hear quite a few visual changes been made to the game and technically it sits like: PS3-Wii U-360, in terms of over all performance.
How has news 'gone down' over on RG?....
I thought the Wii U version of Tekken was awful, possibly the crappest game I played on it.
It had laggy controls, slowdown issues and didn't look as nice graphically as the Xbox 360 version.
TTT2: Wii U Ed' - the issues are small and I won't be buying it at anywhere near the SRP. I've seen the game on shopto.net for £24 already. Not ordered it yet though as it may come down further.
The news has likely confused the one-dimensional thinking of the usual four or five haters on RG, lol! The fact someone could own a Ninty console but not post nothing but gushing hyperbole about it is a new concept to them...

Personally, I don't see the point in comparing specs to the PS3/360. I have a PS3... and will reluctantly buy a PS4. I suspect Sony will remain the better option for most multi-platform games. And, in general, I doubt anyone is planning to drop their other consoles for the Wii U.
As far as the price, even the £224.99 discount price is more expensive than the Deluxe package here in the US. Not sure why the UK launch price was so high, but apparently it's dropping...
I think the Wii U gamepad CAN add to the experience... some of the multiplayer works really well. Nintendoland's Pikmin Adventure is one of the best examples, where the gamepad player is controlling Olimar & the herd on their screen while the other players are individual, independent Pikmin playing on the TV. Rayman Legends uses the gamepad's touch screen in single player to shift in-game objects and guide non-player characters through the level. Like a touch screen puzzle game within the platformer. Gimmicks, but they're integrated and not out of place 'add-ons' like the old Chao raising or VMU slot machines. Definitely seems like the gamepad is best suited for multi-player and as a stand-alone game display, but will wait and see how well it's integrated into single player for future games.

You played a pre-release demo at Play Expo.
The biggest drawback to buying TTT2 on the Wii U (or other online multiplayer games) is the lack of an online community. It's free to play online, but by the time the price drops I don't think there will be many people playing.
If you only want single player or local multiplayer then a budget purchase with the DLC included is a great deal.

IF Nintendo had gone the route of really pushing the benifits of the controller, the fact your now getting HD games on A Wii system etc, then, i too would'nt be comparing it to PS3/360, but when Nintendo P.R made all that fuss about Wii U offering the BEST console versions of key titles and yet despite newer hardware, TWICE the Ram of PS3, it's versions of BLOPS 2, Ninja Gaiden 3, A.Creed 3, Mass Effect 3, Tekken Tag etc are either on par with PS3/360, worse than PS3/360 or better than 360, worse than PS3 version from technical point of view, then it HAS to be viewed in same spotlight.
Reason i say this, Nintendo clearly wants Wii U to be seen as offering the same gaming exp (and MORE) that you'll find on PS3/360, hence securing the same versions of thier games, it's not like Wii U getting spin-Off's in the serie way say Vita A.Creed 3/Blops are.
Vita versions of things like Need For Speed are compared to PS3 version, as Sony trying to say Vita offers very similar exp, but portable, with Wii U, it's coming across as the PS3/360 exp.but with benifits ONLY Wii U can offer thanks to the controller.
IF Nintendo wanted to compete on level playing field, they should'nt have cut costs on slowe CPU and ensured dev.tools up to scratch.

I thought Mootown said the Wii U games on show at Play Expo were not the finished article?
From what I've heard and read, including the exhaustive Digital Foundry, the Wii U version plays just as well as the PS360 versions albeit with a few minor omissions plus extra content.
The biggest drawback to buying TTT2 on the Wii U (or other online multiplayer games) is the lack of an online community. It's free to play online, but by the time the price drops I don't think there will be many people playing.

Sensible advice. Thanks, Tom. I'm not too fussed about playing fighting games online, to be honest.

From what little i've read on Wii U Tekken Tag 2:
It's lost the interactive snow, various objects etc, uses a lower precision blur effect and has a slightly less stable frame rate.
So omissions have been made.
Plus, whilst it DOES offer extra modes over PS3/360 versions, Tekken Ball is the same mode that's been around since PS1 Tekken 3, so hardly original and it LACKS the online features found in PS3/360 versions, namely...
World Tekken Federation Stat Tracker+Tournament Organiser.
So, you pays yer money, takes yer choice.

Agreed. Reggie had made a big issue about being able to play proper CoD, etc, games on a Ninty console now. He's conveniently omitting to mention that big name games such as the likes of GTA V won't be appearing on Wii U because the console can't do DirectX 11 and so can't run engines such as Unreal Engine 4.
Well, as I thought would happen, I've bought a Wii U. I took advantage of the same bargainous deal as DCRip via the Zavvi Ebay Outlet.
*very excited*

Wii U is DX 10, with some DX 11 features?
As for proper COD, lol, was'nt that annouced for Vita Black Op's originally? ie you'd be getting the 'full blown experience'.

Another sinner!
I see there are still 70 or so units left of the supposed 400 they've available at that price. I'd imagine if PS4 or the next Xbox were to be similarly discounted by a retailer so soon after launch all 400 units would be snapped in no time.

I don't know the answer to your first question. The second part sounds like more typical BS from Sony, lol!

For once, it WAS'NT Sony doing the bullshit, the claim came from Activision.
Looks like Nintendo were taking the BULLSHIT stand, US President Reggie Fils-Aime was claiming that third party games on Wii U would have DRAMATICALLY BETTER GRAPHICS on Wii U, compared to PS3/360, as Wii u is MUCH MORE GRAPHICALLY INTENSIVE.
Well, Reggie, not sure about that, yes Wii U use's newer hardware, runs DX 10.1 compared to PS3/360 DX9, has TWICE the Ram, but has a weaker CPU and what's this? the 360/PS3 can cache data to the HDD, to help prevent bottlenecks, yet Wii U has NO such feature for it's flash Ram?.
(Reggies claim is exactly why Wii U SHOULD be compared to Ps3/360-If your going to come out with such a statement Reggie, you'd better have the games to prove it).
Yet we've (already mentioned Tekken Tag+Trine 2) seen the vast majority of Third Party games on Wii U, matching 360/PS3 version's in terms of NATIVE resolution, but suffer graphical omissions and/or frame rate issues.
Black Op's 2, whilst visually as good as 360, is beaten on over all frame rate performance by PS3.
Darksiders 2:Uses a lower quality A.A solution than PS3/360 versions, lower quality water and lighting effects, is missing trees from the wide open areas, lower quality textures on the ground etc, frame rate-better than 360, but below that of PS3 version.
A.Creed 3, so similar it even features same glitches found in other console versions, but suffers more frame rate drops than PS3/360.
Both Batman:A.City and Mass Effect 3 show the Wii U CPU struggling to cope with multiple characters on screen compared to PS3/360.
Reggie better hope developers DO start optimising Wii U games to use the GPU more than offload tasks to the CPU, or his claims going to look even more daft.
:-)
Wii U hardware looks very much to be an evolution yet again of the Game Cube Hardware, which used a IBM Power PC 750 Core (released in 1997?) in a 2000 Console, by the time the Wii arrived (2006?), clock speed was increased on said chip to 729 MHz and now for Wii U, it's had clock speed put upto 1.2 GHz? (so hackers seem to think, Nintendo won't offically say), Core count been tripled and it has more on-board cache.
Reason they stuck with same chip? they wanted Backwards Compat.on new system with older system (ie G.G on Wii, Wii on Wii U.).
To claim Wii U is more graphically intense than 360 is odd choice of words though, 360 operates at 3.2 GHz, 6 hardware threads over 3 cores, equiv. to 1.6 GHz per thread, so CPU wise it (and PS3) easily have the edge on Wii U.
Tekken Tag 2 Producer Katsuhiro Harada said, when talking about developing for the Wii U, 'Creative Solutions are required, as CPU Clock is kinda low'.
Reggie would have been far better to release FULL tech specs for Wii U, when making that claim about hardware being more graphically intense, rather than being coy as to exact specs of Wii U and letting hackers reverse engineer the system and finding out the inner workings.
As Wii U currently stands regarding Third Pary games, developers seem to be struggling to get Unreal 3 Engine running as well on it, as they have on 360+PS3, how Wii U will fare when the 'switch' is made to engineslike Cry Engine 3, Unreal 4 etc, remains to be seen.
Honestly think Nintendo would be better taking a Trine 2 like approach when going after Third Party games for Wii U.Why?.
Trine 2 not only looks better than 360 (and PS3 espically, due to the blur effect used by the A.A method employed), being native 720P (other console versions use dramatic resolution resolution changes on the fly), has a more refined A.A method employeed, higher Res.textures and more detailed foliage, but it also contains the expansion pack, Goblin Meance, which was previousily PC only.
(It was initally reported the colour looked rather washed out, though i'm lead to believe this was a gamma issue which was going to be patched).
But the KEY thing here is, Trine 2 was designed NOT to be a CPU Intensive game, so it plays to the strengths the Wii U GPU etc offer, where as games designed for PS3/360 are more CPU intensive, with Cell offloading stuff to the SPU's etc.
If Nintendo get games running on Wii U that really use the potential of the hardware and offer exclusive (console) content, then it'll be seen to be offering better VFM and the best version of...these games from a console viewpoint.
Look how long it took developers to get Unreal 3 running AS WELL on PS3 as 360 or switch to PS3 as lead development platform for console, over 360, DOES the Wii U really have time on it's side to get evelopers to optimise Unrel 3 games yet again, this time for Wii U?.
Just putting these last 3 post's out there to get some debate going.
Well, as I thought would happen, I've bought a Wii U. I took advantage of the same bargainous deal as DCRip via the Zavvi Ebay Outlet.
*very excited*
Another sinner!

My curiosity, scepticism, suspicious nature and that damn price forced my mouse hand. Still, a risk considering my Wii barely gets used these days. Fingers crossed for some great exclusive games.
I'm not influenced by the spec stuff, console comparisons, or what Reggie said. That's all a bit superfluous and irrelevant. The bottom line is that the console already has some titles I'm interested in playing.

Not sure where the idea has come from that either Reggies claims or the console comparisons, had any influence on your purchase.
Reason's i've posted on both these issues....
The Console comparisons:We've been comparing likes of A8/C64/Speccy+CPC games, 7800 VS NES, ST VS Amiga, PC Eng.VS MD etc on the forum and the point was made in earlier post about Wii U from another poster that Wii U really should'nt be compared to PS3/360, yet IT was something Nintendo themselves were very vocal about doing.
Plus the issue of FUTURE 3rd party support is something i'd wager many potential buyesrs would be looking at with a Nintendo console, having seen how N64, G.C and Wii have fared in this dept, so i thought i'd put it out there get some debate going on this subject.
It's a valid point, as we're entering an era where development IS switching to DX11 etc.
The Reggie claims followed on from a reply to a point we had been discussing, in that case Activision promising Vita owners would get a TRUE COD exp. With Black Op's, in fact they got a poor spin off and, as mentioned above, it fitted in with a point another poster had made about why Wii U should be compared to PS3/360.
Think the miss-understanding MIGHT have come about as i posted on these subjects AFTER repling to your original post.
None of the 3 following posts were meant as a continuation of...
More a further entry into the (greater) Wii U debate in general, hence i put point about posting to get debate going and then made a suggestion along lines of 3rd party games Nintendo might fare better going after, which i'd welcome others thoughts on.
It's similar to how i personally feel Sony should stop going after almost PS3 quality versions of PS3 games on Vita and instead get exclusive games out for it, designed with hardware potential in mind.
Darksiders 2:Uses a lower quality A.A solution than PS3/360 versions, lower quality water and lighting effects, is missing trees from the wide open areas, lower quality textures on the ground etc, frame rate-better than 360, but below that of PS3 version.
I played this at Play Expo and graphically it was very noticably inferior, it also suffered from severe slowdown when things got busy.

Pre-release, developer was promising Wii U version would have graphics '.....at least as good as PS3/360 version' and it'd be 'visually the same' and 'getting game working on Wii U hardware was NOT any issue'.
Yet what's been delivered clearly took a hit in graphics and frame rate.
Extra content, use of controller, all great stuff, but developers really should'nt be making claims that they cannot deliver on.
Had he said, we'll be working hard to minimise any performance differences across all 3 console platforms, then fair enough, bet they were under pressure to get game out as Wii U launch title, but implying that it was a straight forward task to get a CPU intensive game running on Wii U and no comprimises had to have been made, was a touch daft, as they must have known places like Digital Foundary, lens Of Truth etc would be keen to see how Wii U versions compared to that of existing, 6 year old tech. console versions.
Sorry, RTrooper. What I wrote was very much about my own process of making a Wii U purchase. The idea to mention those points came because those points are in this thread and that they relate, somewhat, to my purchase. I know you're stating what you've read so please don't read my reply as a swipe at you in any form.
I'd read that Nintendo had made comparisons. It doesn't matter to me if the comparison came from Nintendo themselves, an industry independent source or a lay opinion on a forum. Independently these don't affect my choice. I do my research, think about whether I trust the sources and make my own mind up. It doesn't always work out right, but hey! Despite these things I'm still reeling a little bit from handing over the cash for a Wii UÂ

I do feel open-minded towards the Wii U. I haven't had more than have a quick look at it in a shop so getting my hands on my own will be exciting. This excitement is being tempered slightly by my feeling towards the Wii.Â
What the heck, bring it on I say. Bring on the competition for market share, some descent innovation and a bucket load of fun. Whoever provides it.
:-)
No worries, i did'nt want ANYONE thinking i was anti-Wii U or anything.I do find the situation it's in to be a very good topic of debate, had it been released 2 years ago, think things would have turned out very interesting indeed, but the timing, with 2013 expected to be THE year the hype machine gets started for DX11 based consoles, well, i do wonder how 3rd party developers will treat it.
I honestly feel had Wii U hit 2 years back, PS4/Xbox Next development would have taken a different direction and possibly 1 for the better, now? too much set in stone.
My rants at developer and P.R peoples claims-axe/grindstone situation for myself there.Honest to god sick of tech.claims, it was bad enough when Sony went all out to destroy the DC with raw polygon claims and talk of emotion in gaming, the PS3 VS 360 arguements just got worse again and the prospect of another 'arms race' P.R war of words, does not appeal.
I mentioned Reggie, as previousily Nintendo been very much about pushing the FUN side of the hardware and the exp.it offers, yet to see Reggie saying crap like 'More graphically Intense' (just WTF does that mean, anyway?) seems they too now see it as the market speak to be talking.
Lord knows the industry as a whole, damn well needs REAL innovation, what are we seeing now? a 6 month cycle on Apple products? PC gaming just offering better looking versions of key console games? prospects of bloody Move MK 2, Eyetoy 3, Kinect 2 etc?.
Going to repeat myself again here (sorry guys), but PC gaming once appealed to me as it was the ONLY place to get things like Red Alert 2, Freelancer, Xcom 3, Realms Of The Haunting, AVP+MOH ( which differed greatly from console versions). These days? i don't care IF PC version runs at 1080P, 60 FPS with 4X A.A compared to 720P, 30 FPS, 2X A.A on console, at grass routes, it's the same game.
IF the potential of Wii U 2nd screen is NOT used by developers for little more than maps, inventory screens+mini-games, then i dispair at the industry.
Sony:ohh, shown some great demo's of possible uses for newer technology (Killzone 3 3D demo, 2 players 1 TV set or Vita-PS3 link up in Dust 514), but they are SO few and far between.
Eye Toy was initally squandered on PS3, Move? originally planned for PS2.
Where's the sheer fun, vibrancy i felt booting up Powerstone, Ready 2 Rumble, HOTD 2 etc on DC?.These days it seems to be nothing but sandbox or massive game worlds and draw distance and bloody resolution, frames per second yet again.
Rant over.
It's good to have a rant sometimes 8)
It's good to have a rant sometimes 8)
Just posted another rant on another forum, subject was PS4 controller-Sony will basically HAVE to package in a 2nd screen device with PS4, rather than rely on Vita, otherwise developers won't support it etc.
Speculation was smaller, newer touch screen tech, better battery life, talk of Sony patent on Biometric tech, ie controller reading nerve signals, higher res.etc.
'Highlights' of my RANT post (in NO particular order):
Sony need to do damn sight more than just mimic what everyone else is doing, IF Vita anything to go by, logic wise (whats better than 1 touch screen? why 2 of course!), i dread to think what's being seen as the PS4's answer to Wii U 2nd screen....
But mainly, LOOK how they've constantly squandered the tech they DID have.
PSP/PS Vita link up to PS4-Where are the games that really use/used it? PSP was shown being used as rear view mirror for PS3 F1 racing game, what games did we get? Resistance 2+Resistance PSP, that was it?.
Eye Toy, hell Move was in R+D at same time, left to fester, along with Eye Toy 2 on PS3, when PS3 launched (Eye Of Judgement, Burnout Paradise using Eye Toy 2, not much else), until Sony knee-jerked and brought it out to combat Wii/Kinect and even after years in R+D, you still had to re-calibrate the damn thing each time you changed games etc.
3D TV-Sony showed demo.of 2 players, 1 TV Killzone 3 etc on PS3, anything done with it? Yeah right.
Where's the Sony that had the stones not only to continue with the Playstation, after Nintendo said, well auctually screw you guys, we're going with Phillips for the Snes CD drive, and not only continued to develop it, but had the vision to see 3D as the future, when Sega/Atari etc saw a balance of powerful 2D with increased 3D abilities over what SVP/SFX chip offered?
Only thing i'd say with regards Wii U, i really DO hope it gets BETTER 3rd party support than Wii ended up with, else it's going to be home to a lot of shovelware, which would be a crying shame.

New Year's Eve is tomorrow. I may live in the land of hogmanay, but I don't like New Year's Eve. I get as grumpy as hell, I can feel it in my bones already, and if I've not had a blazing row with my wife by the time it's 3pm that row isn't far away. I wonder, with all the ranting, RT, do you not like new year either?

I never bought a PS3 so feel I can't say very anything about it really and i know even less about it's proposed successor.
If the Wii U gets poor third party games it'll inevitably kill it for me. And, like the Wii, it'll only get used for the odd exclusive must have game. And some Mario Kart. There will be a Mario Kart? Right?
@Mire Mare:
New Year stuff? hmmn, not my thing, much prefer Xmas, but only time i'd really rant at it, was when i was living in town and even then from a practical point of view.
Despite HUGE No Parking markings, people would always park up, blocking my paid for parking space outside me flat and leave car/s there until 24 hrs later at least, so often i could never get out when i wanted.
IF your changing job or doing something wonderful for the upcoming year, then yep, party on, but when it's same shit, different day time, then really do'nt feel in the party spirt.
2013-Another year of job cuts, foul weather, spending cuts and same smug faces beaming at me from TV/House Of Commons.
The PS3/PS4 rant though..given that this gen, Sony really did'nt do that much to improve Playstation online over the PS2 days, when they KNEW MS would really be pushing it and PS3 could'nt even handle cross game chat or host a decent web browser, i honestly cannot see them coming out with a 2nd screen PS4 controller, included with each PS4 that's really going to offer anything above what Wii U's is offering.
Yawn! Haterz gonna hate, lol!
I'll be posting my thoughts on Wii U soon now that I've played five games and two game demos on it.
After seeing how publishers like E.A treated the Wii after their more 'hardcore' titles fared on it (i.e BOMBED at retail) this made for interesting reading:
Wii U S.E of Mass Effect 3 did'nt even make it into the UK top 40 games chart, nor did it make the Wii U specific Top 10 either.
Crytek ruled out Wii U version of Crysis 3 as well, saying E.A lacked the buisness drive to bring it to the platform.
Wii U S.E of Mass Effect 3 did'nt even make it into the UK top 40 games chart, nor did it make the Wii U specific Top 10 either.
Ninty console owners once more not particularly interested in buying non-Ninty non-cutesy games combined with the fact the console has only recently launched so the user based is tiny?
Crytek ruled out Wii U version of Crysis 3 as well, saying E.A lacked the buisness drive to bring it to the platform.
I initially thought the reason may have been due to Wii U perhaps struggling with the new CryEngine 3 said game utilises. Then a quick look on Wiki' revealed the following,
The new engine was being developed for use on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. As for the PC platform, the engine is said to support development in DirectX 9, 10, and 11.
... so the technical challenge would appear not to be the reason. Perhaps EA are reasoning that the more niche (dare I use the term 'hardcore'?!) nature of the
Crysis franchise (not exactly CoD is it) is unlikely to go down well with Ninty fans. That said, if Ninty want Wii U to not be another Wii in terms of sorely lacking third-party game support then it needs such games to be released on the platform.
:-) Since Laird and DC joined the Nintendo ranks, looks like only i am left to pour scorn...
UK Games Chart, this is 3rd week in a row there are NO Wii U only games in the Top 40.Last time there was? it was 15th Dec 2012 and that was Nintendo Land at No.39.
How are multi-platform games faring, well, mentioned Mass Effect 3, but few figures on some others, chart track wise, sales relate to past week.
Black Ops 2, mere 1% of ALL sales gone to Wii U.
0% of Just Dance 4 go to Wii U.
Sonic+Sega All Stars Racing fares better, 9% of ALL sales.
Yep, small user base and and all that, but i do wonder how long term, 3rd party support is going to pan out.
oh no your not alone... I own a Wii and Gamecube but I still hate Nintendo lol

The wii-u certainly looks like a massive failure so far when you compare it to the original wii's popularity. Though I guess things could still turn around, but I have to admit I hope it doesn't. Hopefully then Nintendo will start to appeal to the core gamers again instead of the casual limp wrist family market lol
I haven't read through the whole thread, sorry :D grin has been tempered somewhat.Â
These comments are based on about 4 hours of use, only playing NintendoLand, and all start with '0oh', 'Oh' or 'Uh'. All questions are rhetorical.
0.0 - 0.5 hrs - 'Ooh, I like the look of this'.
0.5 - 1.5 hrs - 'Oh that doesn't look anything like me!'. (After using camera to create a MiiU)
1.5 - 2.0 hrs - 'Uh? Is it me or is this console a bit slow?'
2.0 - 3.0 hrs - 'Ooh, so that's what a convoluted process for sending friend requests looks like.
3.0 - 4.0 hrs - 'Oh, what weird gameplay. Not sure I like that.' After playing F-Zero and Zelda mini games.
+ 48hrs since setting up my WiiU - I went to look at WiiU games in a real shop today. 'OhMFnG look at the price of those games!' There's no wonder I still only have NL and RT is saying that not many are selling!Â
I am hearing these stories a lot . . . .
This is why I will stick to my word (unlike DC) and not be buying one!
Ignoring the troll thenÂ

...
From what I've experienced of
Nintendo Land so far the game is largely terrible, imho. The list of what's wrong with it would take me so long to type I'm losing the will to live just thinking about it.
Wii launched with the pack-in game
Wii Sports which, despite its simplicity, grabbed you instantly with its immediacy. So what the heck have they done with
Nintendo Land? It's a woeful game with the odd flicker of excitement to be had.
When I first owned a Wii I couldn't get enough of
Wii Sports and played it over and over. The sequel
Wii Sports Resort was mostly decent too albeit that the formula had been flogged to death by the time of its release.
Nintendo Land? I can bearly muster the enthusiasm to play it again. The thought of picking up the box, opening it, lifting out the game disc to then insert it in to the console feels like an ordeal in itself just to play that mess of a game.
Biggest screw-up of all is the fact the game is meant to be multiplayer but commits the cardinal sin of not having any form on online multiplayer mode. Yes, an offline multiplayer party game as the console's first-party launch title included as the pack-in title in Premium versions of the console to showcase Wii U's capability. The internets word 'Meh' was invented for such a game, imho.
Thankfully, I've picked up some other games for Wii U too so hopefully the memory of
Nintendo Land will soon diminish.
who's a troll? lol, I thought you were crying for help from those who aren't exactly Nintendos biggest fans. I don't HATE them like I hated Sony and like I still hate Apple but I don't have any respect for them since the Wii and the Wii-U has done nothing to change my opinion

I was ragging on forum co-admin Laird just for the lulz, lol!Â

I certainly don't require the assistance of "those who aren't exactly Nintendos biggest fans" as I've never had a beef with Ninty fans. In fact I've just now 'friended' a good number of them on Wii U's Miiverse. It's only the small minority of ultra deluded but extremely vocal Ninty fanboys, or Nintendards as some of us lovingly refer to them as, that ruin things for the rest of us.
We all know the kind of morons in question. The sort who get in a lather should one have the temerity to not share in their opinion that everything Ninty is amazing, revolutionary and innovative. Especially innovative because that's a particular favourite of theirs. The sort of people who constantly TELL us all that Mario, Zelda et al games are 'amazing' like they're stating fact. Those incapable of accepting any other point of view that runs contrary to the gospel according to the Nintendard hive mind.
Strange as it may perhaps seem, I'm actually quite a fan of Nintendo myself and as can be seen from my sig I happen to own pretty much all home and handheld consoles the company has released... with the notable exceptions being the ghastly NES (no biggie there as pretty much no-one else in the UK bought one either back in the day), the godawful 3DS and the SNES.
Shoot me down in flames if you must but I actually quite like the Wii U. *gasp!*
nevermind I was only messing around. I actually wouldn't mind having a SNES to try out Super Metroid but doubt I will ever bring myself to buy one. I don't mind the gamecube or the wii I just don't much like the way nintendo has done things and there shameful lack of innovation. Or perhaps its not a lack of but merely an incredible ability to make things that are innovative somehow mundane with the constant repetition of game franchises. For example the wii WAS innovative but I found myself looking at Super Mario Bros Wii and thinking... "how did they make ANOTHER Mario game on the wii look and play almost EXACTLY like the old Nintendo ones?" you guys know what I mean lol. and don't get me started with Super Mario Galaxy!!!

I just read the story on EuroGamer. Of the subsequent site members' comments this one amused me the most,
Wii U. U for unsupported by the looks of it.
Just 'discovered' that you can power on, launch, and play some Wii U games without using the gamepad at all.

Gamepad battery life is horrible and I'm sick of scrambling for the a/c adapter just to launch games. I usually use the Wii's classic controller for gameplay anyway...
how sucky is that though? To have to use the old wii controller to play games... and is it really worth bothering with the screen controller for just one player gameplay? Can you use more than 1 on the same machine? Soooo glad I'm avoiding this pile.
A rather telling fact which I found amusing the day after boxing day was that in the new GAME store in Watford, the 360 games and stuff line the wall on the right, the ps3 and psp and other stuff lines the far left wall, the back end of the left wall has the wii u. The ONLY section getting any activity aside from the MASSIVE queue going up the left side out the door was the 360 section. sad state of affairs but it kinda sums the wii-u up at the moment. as well as the ps3, people are happy to buy and show off a playstation but they just never actually buy any games for it lol
Either that or more Xbox 360 owners are dumb enough to buy stuff from GAME!
that is also a distinct possibility lol... but seriously though the game reward scheme is pretty good and they are starting to compete well with online prices. I often prefer to go and buy a preowned copy from game rather than purchase a copy from CEX or Ebay and have no idea of the state of the game and wait for it to be delivered AND pay for delivery.
Also I love going into game and trading in old complete games for a new game. I traded a spare borderlands for Red Faction Armageddon and it was absolutely free!
just seems no one is buying the wii-u at the moment at all except parents who want to entertain their kids with the latest tech toy

I'm a Wii U owner but I don't recall having become a parent yet. Maybe I should make some enquiries...Â

I actually like the Wii's classic controller (or pro) so it's personal preference to keep using the Wii controllers. And, didn't cost anything since I already have a few of them. There's a new Wii U pro controller available but it isn't backwards compatible with Wii games so I'm not buying yet.
Games that integrate touch screen controls won't even launch without the gamepad but most of those games aren't my style anyway. You can launch & play non-touch screen games like Sonic Racing Transformed or Mighty Switch Force using only the Wii classic controller. Still have the option to quickly switch to the gamepad as a short-range portable if the kids want to watch TV.
Long term, I'll probably use a classic controller or arcade stick for most of my Wii U gaming... same as I did for Wii gaming. For me, the gamepad is great for portable netflix/web browsing and occasional 'handheld' gaming. With true full game cross play! (unlike the Vita)

I won't buy another gamepad unless there's a killer app that requires a second touch screen.

Made for surprising reading, are third party publishers taking a wait and see approach i wonder? or are the main teams busy on PS4/Xbox Next/Android/iOS games these days?.
Not a lot to pick through there, espically if your a PC/PS3/360 owner.
Nintendo really need to be getting out the big guns, prior to the hype train for Sony+MS next gen hardware being offically annouced.
Wow... another reason the UK/EU launch was worse than the US. Console prices are much higher and the first five games on that list were launch titles in the US.
For near-term retail releases, I'm looking forward to: Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, and Lego City (for my kids)... in that order.

Also anxious for Toki Tori 2 and Bit.Trip Runner 2 on the eShop. Plenty of exclusives to keep me happy during the first six months of the console.
I still don't see 'hardcore' gamers looking at the Wii U as their primary console... ever. Once the next gen consoles are released the Wii U probably won't be able to handle multi-platform ports anyway. The opportunity for ports of the latest modern titles will probably end in 2013.
Just played ZombiU for my first time - I started with the campaign mode. The Gamepad integration I've witnessed thus far seems kinda okay but nothing revolutionary. The game itself seems reasonably well put together with plenty of atmosphere and tension with the gameplay. Kinda cool being able to venture around the London Underground and outside on street level too... more so perhaps because I live in the South East near to London myself.
I can certainly now appreciate for why the quality of the game's graphics have been criticised though as they're very rough around the edges with some rather rudimentary-looking textures and low polyon count angular-looking objects on screen. I kinda 'get' the PS2 comparison albeit that I think it's a little harsh as the graphics aren't that poor. I'm just a little surprised at how rough the visuals look in places and aren't necessarily saying that from the perspective of a PC user used to witnessing games with splendid graphics. The game is visually lacking in certain obvious aspects relative to PS360 too. The quality of the visuals are far from being a game breaker albeit that they serve as a constant reminder of just how much better the game world's atmosphere could have been were the graphics to have been better.
I sense this is a game I'll likely quite enjoy playing and be more than glad to have purchased despite such issues.
I want a DS/Gameboy adaptor for the Wii U. I would buy one when they release that add-on.

That's a really good idea. Now that they have the touch screen controller they could do a DS player for it. I'd take another look at buying one if they released something like that.
Found a Wii U Netflix workaround online... in case anyone else is sick of the gamepad using up battery life to display the netflix menu while watching on the TV:
After starting the movie/TV episode walk the gamepad away from the Wii U until it's out of range, then power off the gamepad. The movie will continue playing and you can power on the gamepad right back at the netflix menu if you want to pause or switch to the gamepad display.
.
So, after ALL Gearboxes talk of how Wii U version of Aliens:Colonial Marines will be the best version, that they love the Wii U etc, it turns out that iun fact it's NOT them who are doing the Wii Version, instead it's 'Demilurge Studios' (Ported Mass Effect to PC i believe) and that Wii version will appear anything upto 2 months AFTER the PS3/PC+360 versions.
Could be interesting....

Well that's a little shocking. I'm really looking forward to this game and I was thinking if the Wii U version is a lot better it may make me buy one but if it's coming out that much later and being done by a different team I will probably just buy it for PS3 or 360. Guess we will see.

It seems Demiurge are something of a 'porting' studio, having done PC Mass Effect and Pinnacle station DLC.They also worked with Gearbox on Borderlands and helped Irrational with level design on Bioshock.
My concerns would be:
Are they going to try and port CPU intensive PS3/360 code to Wii U, rather than re-code it for the Wii U strength (GPU)?.
Is this to become a standard for 3rd party support for Wii U-You'll get the big name games, but done by teams just given task of porting it over, add a few controller specific bells n whistles?.
The proof will be in the pudding.
If the Wii U version is plagued with technical issues such as a lower frame rate, inconsistent frame rate, lower quality textures, etc, than the PS360 version and/or has gimmicky GamePad integration that adds nothing particularly constructive to the gameplay experience then I'll just pick up the best version instead - the PC version.
If indeed the game itself is any good in the first place...
Just got myself a Wii U.
See they've annouced a HD remake of Legend Of Zelda:Windwalker, for Wii U.
Also annouced new 3D Mario+Mario Kart for Wii U.
oh be-still my beating heart! MORE Nintendo rehashes, I'm soooo glad that Epic Mickey 2 and hopefully Sonic Colours 2 are going cross platform so I don't have to fork out the money for the Wii U, I am just completely MEH over teh whole idea of it... it does nothing for me whatsoever
See they've annouced a HD remake of Legend Of Zelda:Windwalker, for Wii U.
Also annouced new 3D Mario+Mario Kart for Wii U.
Oh dear!
Also coming:
New Yoshi game.
New Fire Emblem Game.
New Wii Party game.
Most promising thing though, new game by Monolith Soft, footage looks very Monster Hunter, but very nice and...it's got MECH SUITS in it!.
Also coming:
New Yoshi game.
New Wii Party game.
Oh dear x 3
:-)
Just for Laird, also going to see on Wii U:
LEGO City Undercover
Monster Hunter
Wii Fit U
Smash Bros
Bayonetta
2 Firmware updates due in summer, said to cut down on loading times in games and return you to Wii U menu quicker.
heh heh... yeah at this point I find it really sad that Nintendo will rely pretty much solely on the first party software or nintendo only franchises they have been using for years. I mean yes they are coming up with new stuff for each gen but they always seem to just cash in on the gimmick of the console. Wii Sports, Zombi-U etc, other than that the majority of the software they will sell will just be Mario's, Zelda's, Sports etc... not sure about anyone else but I'd get bored PDQ if I were a Nintendard
Trailer for the new Monolith Soft game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K40orKpbJBUAlso looks like they'll be charging a small 'upgrade fee' for every VC game that you want to play on the Wii U gamepad?? Feature that should have been available for free from the start...
Have to admit that looks pretty sweet.. Nintendo need to focus more on new IP's like this and so on.
I also will admit that this looks great, I hope its more towards a PSO style play than Monster Hunter Tri, Tri roped me in with nice trailers but I HATED the crap with all the NPC's in the towns and then the restrictive mission structure
See they've annouced a HD remake of Legend Of Zelda:Windwalker, for Wii U.
Also annouced new 3D Mario+Mario Kart for Wii U.
Couldn't give a fig for Zelda. Give even less of a fig about ANOTHER Zelda rehash.
If the next 3D Super Mario game is good then I'll be getting it.
Definitely hoping the next Mario Kart isn't broken like the single player mode of
Mario Kart Wii was.
Also coming:
New Yoshi game.
New Fire Emblem Game.
New Wii Party game.
I'd rather attend a Nintendard gathering dressed in a Zelda costume than play any of those games!
...
Smash Bros
Bayonetta
2 Firmware updates due in summer, said to cut down on loading times in games and return you to Wii U menu quicker.
Reasonably interested in both those games.
Kinda sucks that Wii U owners have to wait until Spring at the earliest for the firmware update that promises to reduce the time the console takes to transition between applications.

A mash-up of several game genres that looks quite promising. Thanks for posting.
Oh, check out the 38 second mark of that trailer. GIANT ENEMY CRABS are back!!!Â
"Nintendo using inferior 50Hz mode for European Wii U Virtual Console" -
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... sole
When I first read that headline I assumed it was a bad joke... but no, Ninty really have been that stupid. Words fail me...

Definitely seems like the Wii U is priced too high in the UK/EU and there were fewer games available pre-Christmas than in the US or JPN...
Not overly surprised by slow Wii U sales.
Lot of folks just sticking with their PS3/360, know it'll be mere months before either Sony or Ms go public with details on their new hardware, so the 'wait and see' game is being played.
Plus, Wii U currently lacks a real 'killer-app' to draw people to it, Zombi U seems to be a real marmite game, Wii U needs a 'Gears' or Uncharted type exclusive of it's own to drag people away from existing hardware in real numbers.
360/PS3 games with better graphics in places/worse in others and 2nd screen stuff is'nt going to do it either, 3rd party developers treating it much the way they did the DC, ports until the big guns come out (PS4/Xbox Next) and if likes of Gearbox etc are'nt even doing the Wii U versions themselves? NOT a good sign, nor is being out sold by the PS Vita.
Nintendo should have learned from the 3DS-A selling point is ONLY as good as the games that make use of it, in that case, the 3D which soon went from only on 3DS..to, it also does...and from the Vita-No good having superb hardware if games are just versions of what you can get else where, why would you want a Vita for similar to PS3 type experiences? and again, why would you need a Wii U if you already own a PS3/360?.
They needed to launch with a stronger follow up release schedule.Rayman+Pikimin 3 been delayed.
If they are'nt careful, they'll have squandered the head start Wii U had, soon focus will very much be on the HYPE machines for PS4/Xbox Next.
And now Nintendo revised it's Wii U sales forecast, down by 1.5 Million, go onto say console having a negative impact on profits.
Guys, you launched it year or so too late and the killer exclusives are coming in at a trickle, what did you expect?.
Not too late to turn it around, but things should have been done differently.
Ninja Gaiden 3:Razors Edge, as expected, has'nt stayed exclusive to Wii U, it's coming to PS3+360, as well as all the Wii U versions extra content, it'll have more costumes and an extra 25 missions.

Bad news for Ninty!
Cannot think WHY this might be:
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/07/r ... -exclusive
2 once exclusives gone in as many days and this before official annoucements from Sony+MS on their next-gen platforms....
Nintendo had best start getting some exclusives of their own out and sharpish, as 3rd party wise, writing pretty much on the wall in terms of how they view the Wii U. Cannot seeit getting games optimised specifically for it's GPU in great numbers judging by the events of past 2 days...
I'm exceptionally happy that games I want to play are finally not going to be nintendard exclusives, I was soo narked off when Sonic Colours, the sequel to Nights and Epic Mickey were exclusive pii titles, so I'm happy to see the publishers/developers wise up and make them multi platform, they can't possibly make their money back on them just from the wii
Things are looking very grim for Nintendo after this news!
Looks like the other platforms won't have the gamepad touch screen puzzle levels, so Wii U will still be the 'complete' version.
BUT delaying the Wii U version until September for simultaneous multi-platform release is ridiculous. I probably would have paid full retail price at the end of February since it's my most wanted Wii U title. By September I'll be playing other Wii U games and won't mind waiting for the <$15 clearance price that all ubisoft games reach within six months...
Things though, you don't know what extra features they might add to the PS360 versions. Online support will almost definitely be better.

Big IF, but IF they used the PS3-PS Vita link up, it could be done for PS3 version and it'd be just the sort of thing i could see Sony encouraging to to convince PS3 owners to get a Vita.
Speculation on my part of course.
Not the best week for Wii U.
2 of it's exclusives are no longer that, Monster Hunter servers to be region-locked so no UK/USA play for example and Wii U games sales for January (UK) are in, some 34,000 Wii U games sold, compare that to:
PS Vita 46,000 games sold.
(And 810,000 360 games and 545,000 PS3 games, but here much bigger user bases).
Not a great sign when a struggling handheld is selling more games than your flagship home console....
Nintendo really need to start turning Wii U's fortunes around.
ubisoft's management are taking some heat for the Rayman Legends delay. Massive complaints on their facebook page, ubisoft forums, miiverse, and even a former member of the development team:
http://www.bowsersblog.com/2013/02/raym ... about.htmlubisoft's suits have now announced that they'll make a second eShop demo soon but that's just fanning the flames.
The most logical suggestion I've seen is that they should at least offer the full game via eShop starting this month. Then they could control pricing and keep the vocal internet fanbase 'happy'. Put it on a disc in September when the multi-platform ports are ready.

The 'fear' the suits seem to have is IF they release the Wii U version now, you'll have legions of angry PS3/360 owners saying why are we paying full price for a 7 month old Wii U game.
Since the Wii U version is obviousily going to have things the 360/PS3 version does'nt, why they just don't release Wii U version 'now' and include bonus material specific to PS3+360 versions (maybe focused on online play etc) so owners feel they are getting a version talior made for their hardware rather than just port with features missing, i just don't know.
If my thinking is correct with Rayman 2 the DC version had extra content over the N64 version, but arrived later?
Edit:Indeed it did, DC changes included slightly zoomed out camera, some 2D sprites replaced with 3D models and exclusive mini-games.
PS2 version, had name change and even more changes made, so honestly cannot see why they cannot take a similar approach this gen.Release Wii U version, then follow up with PS3+360 versions offering differing content, that way, everyone gets chance to exp.the game, no-one should feel cheated.
Internet speculation is now blaming Microsoft for the delay. Microsoft apparently has some developer terms & conditions that allow them to reject multi-platform titles unless the 360 version has simultaneous release and comparable content:
http://www.edge-online.com/news/microso ... -releases/Microsoft might be forcing ubisoft to delay the Wii U release or forfeit a 360 version. ubisoft's wording hints at this also... "We never want to delay a game and for that we're sorry. We made the tough decision to push back the release so we could offer it on multiple platforms."

So who's to blame? The American imperialist bully boys of Microsoft or the cheese-eating surrender monkeys of French company Ubisoft?
Talking of Aliens:C.M, heard 1st review is in, GAMEStm, 4/10.
If it's as bad as it sounds, cannot see myself getting a Wii U just for the lure of using the controller as a motion tracker, no-matter how much my Aliens inner geek demands it.
Crying shame IF game is as bad as GAMEStm make out, Rebellions AVP was dissapointing enough on PS3/360, now this...Game over man, game over!.

Every person I have spoken to who has played it was massively disappointed.
The preview videos made me think oh-oh, as did it's change from promising squad based shooter to std FPS.I was very wary of Gearbox this gen after seeing the A.I routines in PS3/360 Brothers-In-Arms being worse than the PS2/Xbox games and now final straw was no reviews appearing before release-never a good sign.
Grips me really, with power of 360/PS3/Wii U alone, let alone modern PC's you could have had THE Aliens game and the Wii u controller really could have made it something extra special.
Looks like another wasted op.with the Wii U game (and as of yet unknown quality, as Gearbox not even doing game themselves) having a potentially great feature put on a real duffer of a game.
This COULD have been a real shot in the arm for Wii U, but unless game is radically over hauled, seems it'll join Ninja Gaiden 3 as a tarted up version of an already very dissapointing PS3/360 game.
Drake, we are leaving! (this game to rot on all formats).
Edit:Just found snippets of the review, they say it's graphically 1 of the worst games to grace PS3/360 in years, that your given NO reason to fear the Aliens and your driven from 1 dissapointing corridor to the next.
So, i'd expect better textures from Wii U version, bonus of motion tracker, but man, Gearbox totally missed point here with an Aliens game, IF your not in fear of the Alien, where's the tension? no good holding the controller and seeing blips appear if you've no feeling of threat is there?.

Exactly! Remember how scary AVP was on the Jag back in the day, especially when you were being stalked by a Predator!
Very disappointed to read Aliens CM may be crap but I Guess there is still hope the Wii U version is better.
Back to the subject of the system there's a new Wii U bundle coming out next week that includes everything in the deluxe set plus the game Zombie U and a pro controller for only 40 bucks more. I'm trying really hard to resist but I may just buckle next week, we will seeÂ
I think you would have to mental to buy a Wii U right now

Thanks for your honest opinion ;D
In all seriousness though I thought the Wii U was pretty cool when I first played it and could see it doing ok. But Nintendo have fucked it up on a grand scale ever since. The system has hardly any games and of those it does have there are only a couple of decent exclusives, nothing worth buying a machine for though, and there is nothing on the immediate horizon either. Unless things change on the games front very very quickly then I am sad to say that the machine is doomed.
I am not even going to mention all the technical problems such as endless firmware updates, Wii virtual consoles problems and gamepad flaws. It's all about the games at the end of the day when it comes to consoles and the Wii U just doesn't have them.
Yes all very valid points and I agree it doesn't look good for Nintendo right now.
That being said they always seem to find a way to turn things around and I have a feeling they will do the same thing here. Time will tell I guess but if I do buy one there's plenty of Wii games I could pick up cheap to keep me busy till the Wii U games start coming. Mind you I could also get an original Wii very cheap these days if I want to play Wii games. Decisions decisions....
Despite the short-term issues, there's no way the Wii U is 'doomed'. This will be Nintendo's console for the next 5+ years. It will have dozens of quality exclusives... mostly first party. Whether it's worth the price now or after a price drop or never depends on whether you're interested in the games.
If you want to play all the 'modern gaming' franchises then the Wii U shouldn't be your only console. But, I think that's been obvious about Nintendo consoles since the N64. As a secondary console it will have plenty to offer... eventually.
Also very good points and that new bundle is a good deal in my opinion.
Again decisions decisions....
Despite the short-term issues, there's no way the Wii U is 'doomed'...
Indeed.
Bit more like it:
Wii U version of Need For Speed:Most Wanted to be IMPROVED over PS3/360 versions (as it'll be based on PC version).
The Wii U's extra Ram allowing for:Better textures and assests, improved lighting and draw distance.
Nice to see some developers willing to take advantage of what Wii U hardware offers.
Namco's Tank! Tank! Tank! is now available on the eShop as a free-to-play basic game with one map. Additional maps & game modes are being sold as DLC. You can only play the 'free' basic game three times per day until you purchase something from the DLC. Buying all of the DLC will give the same content as the retail release.
The 'My Kong' multiplayer mode, which some reviews praise as the best part of the game, is on sale until the end of February.

Wow! That sucks, especially after all the motion tracker hype.
Sega have denied Wii U version has been canned, they instead say they never gave a def.release date (and nor has there been any footage of it running seen so far, etc).
Looks like they are waiting for the poor reviews of PS3/360+PC versions, outrage to die down. :-)
Jan.(a 5 wk month) Wii U sales are in from USA:
Wii U shifted an (estimated) 55,000 units.
By comparison:
PS Vita in at around 35,000
Xbox 360 in at around 280,000
Starting to look like folks hanging on waiting for the Xbox Next and PS4 revealing, PS4's said to be 20th Feb, shot of prototype new controller 'leaked' (Dual shock with small touch screen on front, share button and move strip on top-looks wretched, like some 3rd party PS3 pad with gimmicks!), Sony starting to tease etc.
Has the Wii U squandered it's chance to get a decent head start? media focus will soon be focusing on 2 very different platforms.
Yeah I was just reading about that. By comparison even when the PS3 was first released and selling for $600 they were selling more per month. Not very good numbers for a brand new console.

Yep, reminds me of the 3DO somewhat, newer, more powerful hardware released, which was found to be weaker in some areas than aging hardware it was up again'st (3DO not as powerul at 2D as SNES, Wii U stronger GPU and double the Ram of say PS3, but weaker CPU), people ignore it, knowing new machines that'll eclipse it power wise, around the corner and it's games will end up appearing on other platforms, so just sit it out.
I played Starfighter, Space Hulk, Return Fire and Po'ED on PS1.
Great as it is to hear things like Need For Speed will be taking advantage of the hosthardware on Wii rather than being a weaker port, i personally cannot see things like this being the shot in the arm Wii U so badly needs.Great if your a Wii U owner and you don't own the game, you'll be getting the best console version, but it's not the sort of thing Wii U needs to shift units.
Nintendo knew that by launching Wii U when they did, they had a fleeting moment whilst the media focus was on them, they should really have run with it, now, light started to shift to Sony (who for once seem on the ball with marketing, catching MS by surprise) and soon to be joined by MS.
Eyes will be on just what sort of games the next gen hardware will deliver rather than a PS3/360 port with nicer textures and draw distance.
Only to look at how media treated the 3DO+Jaguar when PS1/Saturn were annouced, they were yesterdays news.Dreamcast written off by supposed power of Playstation 2, 77 Million Poloygons, Emotion Engine etc, Vita written off, Xbox was nearly written off by likes of EDGE
at 1 point etc.

After some of the lukewarm reviews I was perhaps expecting the worst from this game after having downloaded it earlier today. I was pleasantly surprised with it though. It may be a simple game but it's plenty of fun... which was the point of playing videogames last time I checked! I purchased the My Kong multiplayer mode at the discounted price and thought it an enjoyable laugh. I particularly enjoyed playing the Free For All multiplayer mode too.Â
Mixed week for Nintendo in Japan:
3DS slaughters all with weekly sales of 74,729 units.
Yet the Wii U is outsold by PS VITA (who's hardware price drop has'nt come into effect, yet)-
Wii U 9,633 compared to PS Vita 11,456. (PS3 by comparison18, 529).
The Dragon Quest 7 re-make was released for 3DS in Japan a couple weeks ago. It sold over 800,000 copies in two weeks and probably gave a boost to 3DS system sales.
Wii U desperately needs new games... anything. EU has been playing catch-up from the 2012 US titles, but US and JPN haven't had a major release in over two months. Rayman Legends should have been released yesterday to a game starved audience for maximum profit.
March should finally be a boost for the Wii U though. US/EU get Lego City, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and NFS:MW in mid/late March. JPN gets Dragon Quest 10 HD and Game & Wario in late March. If they can't sell some consoles with these titles, it'll be a long spring for Nintendo fans.
Konami given reasons why 'Castlevania:Lords Of Shadow 2' IS'NT being developed along side PS3/360 versions:
To do a Wii U version along side, would require resources and budget we just don't have, your looking at a team of another 20 people.
The office space we bought was for 60 people, we've currently 110 working in it, people are sitting on each other's laps.
We may look at doing a Wii U port in future, just not now.
Just been reading a review of Lego City Undercover, was interested to see how a Wii U exclusive fared, from a technical standpoint, rather than yet another PS3/360 port, seems the exterior sections are (sadly) blighted by a good few technical flaws, slowdown and pop-in being quite frequent.
Starting to wonder just when, if at all, developers will start to code for the hardware's strengh (ie get the GPU to handle the workload, taking pressure off CPU).
:-) So, ONLY in 2013 did enough people have the internet for Nintendo to consider it....

I know SEGA backed the console online gaming horse just a little too early, but Nintendo been on side of caution bit too much i'd wager.....

Target is giving a $50 gift card with Wii U system purchase next week. Since Lego City, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Walking Dead:Survival Instinct are all releasing in the US next week they're just trying to attract the new console buyers over the other retail chains.
The only Wii U game that's on 'clearance' already is Tekken Tag 2. It's supposed to be getting a price drop to $20 MSRP on all consoles (including Wii U) but some Targets are already selling it at $18. I've checked the local Target twice now but no price drop here yet.

The Wii U struggle to get 3rd party support on board continues...
It won't be getting a conversion of:Dead Island:Riptide, as whilst the developer is updating the game engine for PC/PS3+360, they won't be modifying it to run on Wii U, nor will they be doing a port over either.
Asked if they had plans to develop any Wii U games, reply was nothing was currently planned.
I saw the recent 'news' that Dead Island:Riptide and Saints Row 4 won't have Wii U ports... but why would anyone expect them to be ported?? None of their previous franchise entries were on Nintendo consoles/handhelds and they probably wouldn't sell to the Nintendo audience anyway. Just seems like attention seeking media negativity to me.
I am surprised by the lack of 3rd party support on the Wii U so far... not the bloated multi-platform franchises, but the lack of low-budget titles from companies like Majesco, D3, Xseed, etc. It seems like the Wii/DS/3DS had plenty of low-budget exclusives that stood out among the shovelware and sold reasonably well. Cooking Mama, Little King's Story, Lost in Shadow, etc. Whether they're Wii-quels or enhanced versions of DS/3DS games, there's a distinct style of games that 'fit' on Nintendo systems and only a few have landed on the Wii U so far.

Thinking behind 'why' they'd be ported is probably that these were among the likes of Ninja Gaiden, Mass effect 3, Batman etc, that would 'prove' the Wii U was a serious contender to the PS3/360, in terms of getting developers on board.Mass Effect was once a Pc/360 only series and many were surprised to see the 2nd game jump onto PS3 as well, with the original coming in as well as the 3rd game.
The developer support or lack there of..seems like a catch-22 situation, developers won't do Wii U versions as they have'nt the resources in terms of people, to code for another platform and optimise code for a GPU based system, when it currently has such a small user base in comparison to PS3/360 and people are put off buying it until they see it get the games they want on it.
Honestly cannot see much changing as developers now if anything, switching to PS4/Xbox Next in terms of console development and people content to stick with existing platforms until they are released.
Cannot see Monster Hunter doing that much for sales over here, to be brutally honest, the demo and opening level from what i've read in reviews+forums is very confusing to new comers and game really only comes into it's own playing as a group.
I've 2 Monster Hunter games on PSP (both given as gifts), find them very hard to get into.
The reasons why various modern games aren't being ported seem obvious, but I don't see why the media creates 'news' that franchises that were never on Nintendo consoles aren't going to be ported to the Wii U. There were a few half-assed ports offered at launch, but it never made sense to expect complete parity going forward. Hardcore players already have a main console and Wii U's tech will be a generation behind soon. Even if Wii U offered the 'best' hardware for 2013's multi-platform titles, 2014's next gen games wouldn't even be ported... aside from CoD and EA Sports. But, I still don't think it matters if the top multi-platform games aren't ported to the Wii U. They wouldn't sell anyway... and the Wii didn't need them to succeed.
My concern is that the smaller 3rd party publishers are missing so far. There were plenty of quality 3rd party Wii/DS exclusives but very few developers have even announced Wii U games. Wonder how many of the small studios have closed or moved to iOS/Android? Will have a better idea after E3. As far as 3rd party support, I think Nintendo needs that basic, low-budget exclusives segment much more than PS360 ports. The middle ground between shovelware and big budget megagames... more reason to buy a Wii U as a secondary console. Four months since launch and the only 3rd party retail 'exclusive' that I've bought so far is Scribblenauts Unlimited.
March sales numbers will be interesting. MH3U is currently at 82% on metacritic and Lego City is currently at 80%. Two well-reviewed exclusives released to a game starved market... Nintendo fanboys will be buying but not sure if they'll be enough to really boost new console sales.
You have to bear in mind this is a very fickle media we are talking about here and it loves to paint a picture of it's Doomed!
PS3 had several times in the spotlight where it was going to fail and fail hard, the 1st, when Activision did that whole croc of 'Unless Sony drops price of PS3 and sales pick up, we may have to look at our level of support for the system', which media took as Activision looking to drop PS3 unless things improve and this was pre-Black Ops 1 let alone 2.
Then with the PSN hack, could'nt move for media giving reports of PS3 owners trading in the system for an Xbox 360.
EDGE, a very early XBOX supporter, soon turned on the 'drama' spotlight on it, cover of F**CKED? Operation XBOX, is it critical? etc as a few publishers had canned Xbox titles and this before it recived Doom 3, HL2 and Far Cry.
With Wii U? Nintendo P.R as much to blame as the media, early claims that Wii U conversions of PS3/360 titles would be worth waiting for, as being technically superior, meant they'd be the DEF.version on console, was'nt a great move when said conversions usually given to 3rd parties and based on code designed for CPU intensive tasks...
The Wii though, by Nintendo's admission was NEVER meant to compete with the PS3/360, the Wii U is, hence i feel the media looking long and hard at how it's online compares to even PSN, how the games compare and developer support.
You hit several nails firmly on the head, so many publishers now just go iOS/Android rather than pour millions into a big budget console game that's no means assured good sales, review scores meaningless, just look at a lot of high profile PS3 exclusives, great reviews, yet sales pityful.
the Wii U really needs to show what it and it alone can offer, i view it similar to how i do the Vita, powerful bits of kit, some games i'd be interested in, but no-where near enough and thus i cannot justify buying yet another system, when so far, it lacks a real killer-app for myself.
I've mentioned in earlier threads i bought my SNES, N64, GBA+Game Cube for basically the exclusives, but not the usual Nintendo fare, IF a 3rd pary developed a killer app for Wii U, that only the Wii U potential offered, i'd be there like a shot. Not interested in PC gaming anymore, so it's not about the specs, i just want something that only exists on a single platform.
Nintendo had plenty of doom prophets dismissing the 3DS in late 2011 too. Then a price drop and Mario Land/Mario Kart released... now the 3DS is selling 500k+ per month and near 30 million sold so far. Sitting in the same portable market as iOS/Android devices.
Personally, I'm not a big Nintendo fan. Just annoys me that so many non-products for the Wii U are 'news' lately. And, media negativity annoys me in general. >:( People who are essentially promoting the industry should be more focused on praising the best games/features of every system than trying to attract web traffic with doom and gloom.

There are some exclusives that I really like on every Nintendo system. I'm not a fan of the core Mario or Zelda games though. And I don't like most RPGs or platformers. So... not a big retro Nintendo fan. The N64 is probably my least favorite mainstream console ever, but even the N64 has a few exclusives that I really like. The Wii U won't be my main 'next gen' console, but I'm sure it'll offer at least a few killer exclusives over its lifespan too.
Thing is though, take something like todays 'news':
'Deus Ex:Human Revolution:The Directors Cut spotted on Wii '
Which looks like the team behind the Wii U version of Mass effect 3 will be bringing Deus Ex HR to Wii U, along with the DLC and using the Gamepad as a 'neural hub' etc....
Your talking an 'enhanced' port of a PS3/360 game from August 2011, something everyones played, moaned about the boss fights and bought the DLC for, if they wanted it etc.
The hype for the game is long gone (with folks like myself who bought it on day 1-PS3 in my case-only to find out a lot of the cool stuff shown in the trailers you could only do at set points, found the boss fights tacked on and the ending an utter shambles etc).
Great if your a new Wii U owner, never played game on PC, PS3, or 360, don't own any of those formats where you could buy game cheaper, but your looking at such a small % of Wii U owners there. This sort of aging port just is'nt the shot in the arm the Wii U needs and you just get jokers saying they cannot wait for Wii U directors cut ports of early PS3/360 games like Bioshock or The Darkness.
At least it's 'news' about a Wii U port that exists.

Square Enix was hyping a Wii U game announcement at PAX East. Hopefully they've got something else to show...
The game was well-reviewed and probably deserved more sales than it got on PS360, but I agree 100% with your last paragraph. I bought it on PS3 for $10 clearance about a year ago and won't be buying it again.
Media now turning on MS+EA after security issues hit BOTH.
MS:Had to shut it's Xbox Entertainment Awards website, after it was found anyone visting the site could edit (ergo get hold of...) previous entrants (so far said to be 2892) Email, home adress, gamertag and D.O.B-Seriousily, after the PSN hack years back, websites still have cock-up's like this?
and E.A after a lab has discovered an 'exploit' in Origin, which would allow the E.A store to launch Malicious code.
So maybe Nintendo got it right and did best to avoid the internet as much as possible? lol.

Improvements to the Wii U version seem to be:
Boss battles fixed! (reworked maps, plus you can use stealth or hacking rather than just an all out combat approach to take them down).
A.I tweaked, as is the energy system, so you can now have 2 energy cells recharge at same time (unless your playing on hardest difficulty setting).
Visualls touched up-Has A.A not present on 360/PS3, revamped lighting, improved enviromental reflectio textures, new fog system and shadows smoothed out.Developers say could'nt do these on 360 etc as lack of disc space on 360 and Ram on both etc.
They are'nt ruling out a patch for PS3/360 to add things like new A.I and improved boss battles as well as the directors com.inc on Wii U version.
HMV are selling the Wii U Premium Pack 32GB plus ZombieU in store for £199.99.
Things must be getting bad . . . .

Official line from HMV is 'Whilst stocks last'.Does smack of stock clearance, flog it off at a small loss now, rather than even bigger loss down the line. The timing in particular struck me, if the (sh*t) PS4 showcase from Sony has pulled in over 20 Million viewings so far and MS Xbox Next only a few weeks away....it really does look as if punters content to stick with PC/PS3/360 and put the cash on either a PC gaming rig or the next offerings from Sony+MS, with Ps4 game annoucements coming in at a steady rate already, time Ms reveals it's exclusives, are the likes of Monster Hunter, Lego City Underground and Pikimin 3 really going to reverse fortunes for the Wii U?.
Nintendo moves to calm Wii U fears as unofficial UK price cuts fail
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/nintendo ... il/0112855
Point not lost. Nintendo 1985 - To retailer - We will buy back all consoles that do not sell.
Nintendo 2013 - To retailers - Sorry we are having technical problems and we can't hear you.
Wii U Need For speed Most Wanted then?
'boasts':Crisper roads, hubcap designs and building fronts, improved draw distance and reflection mapping (more buildings reflected in puddles etc)+revamped night time lighting etc, so the extra Ram etc helped out here and frame rate does'nt drop as low as it can on PS3/360, will only drop as low as 25 FPS on Wii as opposed to the 20 FPS drops on PS3/360 but....
It's running in same resolution (1280X704), at same frame rate (30 FPS) uses same textures for things such as the white lines on the road and only has 6 racers in the online multi-player as opposed to 8 on PS3/360.
So technically, whilst it's fantastic to see Wii U hardware being written for, rather than given a best fit port, i've yet to see anything that really outshines the PS3/360 versions.
The 'PC' textures that media were claiming would be in, seems more like:In line with PC textures in specific areas rather than applied to all of game and it's dissapointing not to see the online aspects equal that of the Ps3/360 versions.
Good start, Wii U needs lot more like this, but personally still waiting for the def.Wii U version of a cross-platform console game.
Â
After reading the comparisons, I'll be getting the Wii U version. Specs may not equal a $$$ PC but it still offers the best graphics/draw distance/framerate available on any console. Not bad for a first attempt at porting to a new platform.
And, most important added feature for me, NFS:MW fully supports gamepad play. 'Portable' version of the full console game. :21:
Among the multi-platform ports so far, the Wii U seems to have the best versions of Sonic Racing Transformed, Tekken Tag 2, and now NFS:MW. Either with best graphics quality, worthwhile exclusive content, or both.
I was really excited to see what the Wii U had to offer. Now, I just do not feel it anymore.
I wish nothing but the best for all the game manufactures. I hope folks keep buying and enjoying. Still remember the downturn of video games in the early eighties and never want to experience it again.
New game for Wii U!!!!
think its pretty safe to say now that the wii u bubble has officially popped and people have realised how much of a flop it actually is. I think the mainstream that they tapped with the original Wii are clearly not "UP" on things when it comes to consoles and they either saw the Wii U commercials and just figured it was another Wii peripheral or update and as its an old console that held everyones interest for about 5 mins no one can be arsed to buy it... thats the impression I'm getting based on the way things have gone so far... I mean correct me if I'm wrong
the best thing that can come out of this whole mess is that Microsoft and Sony will hopefully take note of Nintendos mistakes and try to learn from them
and hopefully Nintendo will try to come up with something better next time... though I fear for them as they had almost backed themselves into a "Niche" easily accessible and family friendly corner... now that has failed for them I don't know what they will do to come back
The Wii reminds me of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Everyone had one. The Wii U seems like the Super Nintendo in that it started off slow and has to prove itself.
It seems like the same cycle over again.

No way! The SNES had games for a start and it sold well from day 1

Actually I think it depends on what part of the world you live in. I don't know what it was like in the UK but in NA that's exactly the way it was. Everybody and their grandmother had a NES but by the time they launched the SNES lot's of people had bought either a Genesis / MegaDrive, or a Turbografx. It took a while for people to start buying the SNES.
Thanks Shadowrunner!!!!
:-[
I forget about the ocean separation and did not mean to slight the Super Nintendo sales in other parts of the world.
Shadowrunner called it right here in NA. I still remember how easy it was to buy a Super Nintendo if you had the cash. System boxes stacked high on display units.
I never remember any lines to buy one when they hit the stores.
Eventually it found its market share and the rest is history.
The outcasts on the other side of the pond gotta stick together :21:

Not sure if this is good news or bad news but Sega has confirmed the Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines has been cancelled. Guess we'll never know if it was better then the other versions already released.

Bad news I would say, it had lots of potential to be the best version.

To be honest, game needed taking back and totally re-doing from scratch and with Wii U struggling to gain the market share the way it is, guess SEGA decided it was best to cut this loose, rather than pour more money into it.
Loving Bit.Trip Runner 2 on Wii U.
The Wii U version has more graphical effects than on PS360, has faster load times than on PS360 and runs at a locked 720p unlike the crappy dynamic scaling employed in the PS360 versions where it runs at sub-HD at times.
It may not be in 1080p like on PC but it's a couple of quid cheaper than Steam are selling it for and being able to play it on the GamePad too is of course cool as always.
