Dracula: The Undead is an RPG game for the Lynx based on Bam Stoker’s book. In it you play the role of Jonathan Harker, a young English solicitor who has been sent to Transylvania to pay a visit to Count Dracula and bring to him the documents needed for his purchase of an old mansion in London. The mansion is the one property that meets the Count’s requirements: centuries old with a graveyard and a disused chapel in its grounds. Upon reaching Dracula’s castle, you realize you are in a sinister place that is full of dangers, dangers of the deadly kind! You try to exit but you find yourself trapped within, forced to explore the castle while avoiding the evil creatures that inhabit it. Your final goal, destroy Dracula and escape alive. Dracula: The Undead is really an amazing game on the Lynx. The game involves a combination of joypad control to move Jonathan around the rooms and text commands to take actions. I will admit this takes some getting used to but, once you get the hang of it, you are certain to enjoy this dark and brooding adventure. Visually the game is quite impressive and there are even cut scenes where Bam Stoker appears to provide narration. You may be tempted to exit the cut scenes but it is not wise to do so as Stoker may give you useful clues for the game. Game sounds and music are also excellent and the music certainly gives the game the proper ambiance. Really an excellent title for the Lynx and one you should not miss in your library.

Pinball Jam

Fans of pinball, here is a title for you on the Atari Lynx - Pinball Jam! Pinball Jam has two different tables to choose from: Elvira and the Party Monsters and Police Force. The Elvira table is, of course, based on the movie star Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Elvira herself appears on the title screen for the table and she is at the centre of the table. In fact, I think it is funny how the gap between the bottom flippers is in between her boobs! The game even has the digitized voice of Elvira with numerous samples based on the action taking place on the table (i.e., “leaving so soon?” when you lose a ball) The music on this table is most appropriate and the sound effects are excellent. Where the table runs into issues is with the visuals. Though nicely created, the contrast between targets and background objects sometimes make it hard to know what you are hitting. The table does scroll well, however, and the physics are done properly. You can nudge and even tilt the table. Personally, I enjoy this table the most out of the two table in the game. In Police Force the table follows the theme of a high-speed car chase as seen in a cop movie. With this in mind, the table has a firing range, gun lanes, police letters, and a machine gun croc hole on it. There is digitized voice as well to add to the fun of the game. This is a really fun title for the Lynx and a very good one to add to any collection.
